Oh yes, I remember those ticks, annoying like hell indeed!

| To me, the concept of 'creation' comes first. Later on, 'creation' can be split-up into composition and sound-size. For me, size does matter, perhaps not for a puzzlegame, but for an RPG of epic proportions you really don't want chiptunes
|
No, not in this era, I see.
Although I think, speaking of Ys, that there's been done a good job, using the limitations of the PSG.
Like merging the baseline and snaredrum in the same channel. This pattern must look familiar:
B_BBS_BBB_BBS_BBB_BBS and so on
Well, I know what you mean, but with "influence" I was referring mostly to musical instead of technical aspect.
BTW, I wonder what tunes you made for RoA. Long time since I heard some music by your hand. |

Fragment-based compositions, much wood/brass, harpsichord, dark spooky sounds, strings, intimate rhodes, big acoustics etc. Big music and small music, dark and bright, all tailormade for the location they're used for.. For the moment it's a mix of Vangelis' Voices and 1492, the PC-game Diablo2, and a couple o' movies.
With fragment-based I mean that there's a lot of elements in 1 tune, so it's not 16 patterns here for an 'A' part, 16 patterns there for a 'B' part, and then some repetitions of A and B etc. In some tunes each pattern is new, while there *is* a memorable theme that's easy to pick-up.
Anyway, you'll hear it when the game's out (or perhaps earlier!) |

I learned a lot from disecting MSX music, especially the more complex songs in Snatcher/SD-Snatcher, the easy-going music in say Dragonslayer VI and the pure melodic 'carrier' in most 80s Konami and Falcom music. So I can't say I am influenced in my compositions by MSX Music per se (you won't hear any existing song in my own songs), but I did learn a lot from MSX Music.
My list would look a bit different btw
If I'm happy I make whatever I feel like making
If I'm in love I write piano ballads
If I'm sad I don't make music at all
If I'm without inspiration I make arrangements (and get inspiration that way)
If I'm lazy I'd make Trance or Dance music
If I'm overestimating myself I write epic orchestral soundtracks
If I'm practically braindead I would make hardcore or metal |

Yes, metal is very braindead music. Any child or idiot could make it. o_O

The same holds for trance (repeat-repeat-repeat-repeat-add extra tjikkaboom-repeat-etc) and ballads (piano, simple chord scheme, violin pad, prego)
If I'm happy I compose all kinds of weird tunes,
If I'm in love I have better things to do than compose music,
If I'm lazy, I just watch some telly, *hihihi*

That must be one of the first things I ever arranged.
It's in Xak 1 and Xak 2 too, by the way. |

I wouldn't say so, and I know you wouldn't either... Unless MrRudi thinks Limb Biskit and Korn are metal ofcourse...
Got tons of examples to prove that metal can consist of very complex musical structures.
