One more time, I need help...

I want to use a flat screen with my GT because my ATARI monitor seems to be near from death... And I need place !!!
But is it a good choice ? Does the picture quality good ? (I'm very "maniac" with the picture quality and hate the RCA or Cinch cables poor and ugly quality like the N64 one).

Thank to everybody !!!

Well, if you like flat-screen I guess the best thing you could do is buy a nice TFT monitor and a good scandoubler that can convert the RGB signals of your Turbo-R to a VGA signal. I've seen MSX setups like that which seem to work fairly well. The only complaint I've heard tho, is that some people feel the image is too clear and crisp, and a little un-MSX because of that. If you don't mind the way an emulator looks on your PC screen you prolly won't mind the TFT-look either though... Make sure your upscan convertor can output the native resolution of the TFT though, if not the TFT 'scales' the image with varying results...

I think as long as you can get at least S-Video output, and your monitor take it as the input, you'll be fine. If you, however, want best picture possible, get yourself XRGB2+ or something similar. You'll need to build custom RGB cable though. And SCART on XRGB2+ is Japanese SCART, not Euro. Plug Euro cable in it and you will enjoy a spectacular bang accompanied by a nice little cloud of cacerogenic smoke Best option for RGB cable wire is to cut a piece of VGA cable from one of the old dead monitors that are often found on streets waiting garbage pick-up. You'll get three thick shielded colorer copper wires + several extra wires to use for Sync and Audio signal.

PS: XRGB2+ outputs either 640x480 @ 60Hz or 1024x768 @ 60Hz. It supports fake scanlines to provide a less bright and smoother image a-la 80-s RGB monitors. Oh, and it costs a lot of money at lik-sang.com (if they still carry it).

Thank for your fast replies and great informations !!

I tought about the S-video output but how hear a sound from my GT ? Does the output (input ?) near the Midi output could be use ?? And the s-video is not the best... I never understood Japanese people with that. It's the same with my Duo-R... Grrrrr.
I never think about that because I always use scarted cables with great monitor from Sony, Philips or Atari and it was perfect... but took place...

It's not a problem to get a VGA cable but I'm not able to do such a modification...
Does anybody can ? Or does a plan exist somewhere ??? I'll try it... (future crash screens...)

Well, I'm going on google to get informations about this XRGB2+ option.

thank a lot.

And if I buy a TFT TV ????
I was on lik-sang & ebay. XRGB2+ seems great but not cheap...
All this for that... I think I'll buy another Philips or 1084s Commodore monitor...
It will be cheaper.... And without problems !!

Thanks anymore.

Well, it doesn't have to be an XRGB2+ at all. There's plenty of other scandoublers/upscan convertors out there for a lot less cash. Ofcourse they may not be as good as the XRGB2, but then again I've seen cheaper models that perform fine too... I wouldn't buy a TFT TV in any event. They are way too expensive compared to normal TFT monitors.

Nothing is ofcourse as cheap as buying one of those old monitors, but TFT is indeed a lot more of this day and age. Figure around $250,- for a budget setup (a $200 TFT with a $50 scandoubler) and around $500 for a higher-quality deal. (say $350 for a bigger and 'better' TFT plus $150 for the XRGB2). For my MSX I would probably go for a cheaper TFT screen tho... but then again I don't use hardware that often anymore...
