Excuse me saying this... well, no, I won't say it... I'll put it differently instead...

Those people that worry so much about this issue are perhaps not fully informed about what it is that the MSX Association intends to enforce.

1) If you use the MSX logo, please state on your site, package or whatever that the logo is not your trademark but someone else's. Big fucking deal! If this is the end of the world for you, you're just a sad-ass loser. It's one tiny line with, if you want, a hyperlink to their page. I mean, please...

2) If you use the MSX logo, please do not sodomize it by making your yellow on pink and green 2342 by 17 pixels logo. Keep the proportions and colors in such a way that it does not negatively impact the logo. This seems fair enough to me.

3) Try not to whine when you're asked not to distribute copyrighted games, apps, warez, system roms and whatnot. This is nothing new, for any platform that is. We all know where to get/keep our warez and know that if we don't splatter it all over the Yahoo! front page no-one is really going to bother us about it. It's just a matter of being discrete about it so the copyright owners do not lose their copyrights due to neglect in enforcing them.

The only thing you could possibly argue about is wether its fair or not for the MSX Association to ask that the MSX logo not be used on unofficial emulators. For me, any emulator is still the same emulator if it doesn't have a logo or two. So far, no emulator has been asked to remove a logo, well, apart from that one front-end that also happened to come with 500+ commercial MSX games. Let's cross that bridge when we... err... cross it...

If getting a new oneChip MSX means that perhaps I'll have to download the system ROMs from some ftp before I can crank up my favorite emu on my PC I have to say I'll gladly take that trade. I really don't see the drama behind having to put "this logo is not mine but someone else's" on a web-page... Big friggin' deal. The fact that you have to be discrete about distributing 500+ copyrighted games illegally is really nothing new...

Anyhoo, my opinion is that blowing things way out of proportion is really not the way to go either...

Its not the right way to interfear with certain projects
thanks to the emulators and games msx is still alive!
and thanks to funet disk images ,now the games are preserved for ever
imagine you have the original xak2 and some how you messup your disks with a glass of coca cola .
normaly you would cry because you lost a precious game ........
but thanks to funet you can download a copy
thats why funet was made to preserve games.

ok its not right to make a program that holds all the software ever made for msx thats not correct i agree with that.

but basix should keep in mind that thanks to emulators msx is still so populair

simply said.. people don't want me to bitch and moan about others opinion.. So I'll just say just this....

I think with posting, before actually handling, a mail like that.... makes you wonder... how come the MSX scene has go become an underground scene?
and second... If people want to clame copyrights (like in the original post) before actually being a cooperate buisness without claiming the rights... that makes you wonder... why do I have all kinds off illegal copies of MSX software...

So Sue me.. bitches....

The idea sounded so good... we could buy translations of games we played a 1000 times.... and thus legally owning a copy of a game. Right now it sounds like a cover to fuck the msx scene up the ass and kill of the last of it's faithfull users.

MSX.org is an independent entity imho ... I know hosting costs money but the volenteers in the scene keeps this page alive.. and also the MSX freaks out there who stay faithfull to a 'dead horse'.

I am in favor of commercial new prodcuts for the MSX but not in such a way that you flex your muscless before they actually achieve something. I would have bought Golvellius 1 & 2 because I think those are some kick ass games.

I was curious where it would take us.... but now I see another greedy bunch trying to intimidate and kill of the passion, a passion that I've had for over 20 years now.

I hope MRC will be allong for a long time... just as the openMSX team spends most of their free time chatting and arguing in their litle chatroom. Swearing on bugs bringin up new ideas to take the emulator to a new level.

MSX.org has grown into a big thing... it's a cool page where loads of friends come and chat.

I respect the guys @ bazix but I do not respect the e-mail and the cheap 'we never told him he should stop' reply.

Sander v N: thanks for posting that... People seem to keep forgetting that! I certainly hope that the mud throwing shit will never be a reason to quit with MRC. I'm afraid that sites which grow to this size will always attract mud fights in some way or another. Please don't let it demotivate you. We don't want a great community site like this go down because of its own success.

I know how it feels to spend almost all your free time on your hobby. The same happens in the openMSX project... Most of the active developers spend almost all their free time on openMSX. Just because we think it's fun! Practically every day we discuss problems, features, write code, improve documentation, work on the web site, work on promotion, check out reviews and comments, test, etc...
Also we get blunt ranting comments some times ("it just sucks!" and hear mostly from unsatisfied people. Yes, it still seems easier to give negative useless feedback (or tell other people things about your beloved project that are simply not true) than a positive contribution. Luckily, there are also still people who like what we are doing and we appreciate their contributions (like complimentrs, bug reports, feature requests, code) a lot! This improves motivation, of course. But as long as we enjoy improving openMSX, we will. That's our main motivation... having fun! What people say will never spoil that.

Enjoy the MRC. While you still can.

Come on Sander! Cheer up! Looks like MRC is taking a too large and serious part of your life! Threatening to pull the plug is something you hate when others do that!

So take a step back, a deep breath and do something else besides MRC. I did that two years ago and it helped me enjoy MSX again.

You are not the only person/organization that invests money and lots of free time in helping the MSX community. MRC is not alone in the world! So telling critics to stay silent when they do not donate is a partial truth. Positive critics ofcourse, not the mud.
And even positive critics can be tough. All this misunderstanding about Bazix and MRC is partly because people cant read and partly because it is not that clear at first sight: do Rikusu or Bart or Snout talk as private person, as MRC webmaster or as Bazix member? I would advise them to make that more clear.

I enjoy the positive atmosphere here the last months! Lets all keep it that way!

Basix is just like stichting brein...... their scaring everyone but cant do anyting legal

by the way the only company's who can sue illigal software users are the companies who own the copyright's!!!!!!!! (Basix you dont have any right do send mail to people who share msx stuff).

So the only thing basix is doing his best at is screwing the msx scene again........

this time its not MSX.org who's misusing its place But BASIX in stead........ so fuck you basix....... The msx Scene is bigger than basix it self!!!!

So basix have lots of fun sueing people because you cant do any thing legal because you guys dont own the copyrights (no copyrights no case )

and basix is creating a big giant trap for it self if it does not stop acting as a little cybercop.

And i gonna backup FUNET so if you try to get them down i will create a new kind of funet! to keep the software&MSX alive

Copying did not kill the msx Scene it kept the msx scene Alive! just like playstation........
if you could not play any copyd game on a psx no one would buy it

This is the Borg Collective. Prepare to be assimilated. We will add your biological and technological distinctives to our own. You will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile.

We are the Borg. Existence as you know it is over. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Resistance is futile

To Borg or not to Borg, the question is irrelevant.

Borg Answering Machine Message:

WE ARE BORG. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE. YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED. But we're not home right now. So leave a message at the tone, and we'll assimilate you later.

Can some one close this thread please?
