Did you ever wonder if there still are suckers on the world who haven't finished Ys 1 yet?
Well, now you have the answer.

This batman in the mines, it seems nearly invincible.
When I was young, I could never get past him, and now I still can't do it.

Has someone got some hints?

I am on the highest level, and I already got all of the silver stuff.

i have finished in those years, dunno how anymore
maybe you need ALL silver stuff.

oh yes! that's what i still need to do... finish Ys! i did many attempts but...

You can only damage him if he's the batman, not when he's bats . And in order to do so, you must hit a corner of his body, that is, 'enter' him for only a small part in the corner and then 'leave' him. It's like you cut off a hook of him

Euhm... the batman in the mines is only vulnerebal to one kind of material. I believe you had to switch back from silver to... something else over there. Didn't someone give you a hint about that? (Or was it the bossmonster? lousy memory...)

He seems to be vulnerable at the feet (Achilles' Heel?), when using the silver sword.

My main problem is dodging the bats. Each time, he totally kills me with those.

nope... the bat-man is only defeatable with all-silver stuff. Circle around, wait for brief moments in the corners and watch him transform... after a while you will be able to tell WHEN he's about to transform into the man and then hit him fast. (walking through him in a vertical line, never in a horizontal line, because you get hit more that way). move away immediatly after that, and repeat circling around him.

It takes a while to get to know his routine, but after you do he'll be relatively easy.

ps: Snout, you've got the endboss and this boss mixed up with the switching your weapon-gear. Because the ultimate boss in darm tower is also only defeatable with the silver gear (and not the flame-sword / battle shield / battle armor)

I defeated the bat-man, and just entered Darm's Tower.

Finally I'll complete this game!

The disk is broken.

There was a hint in the game, it said he could only be defeated by Mithril (I believe it was). For you to figure out that Mithril is Silver . I got stuck there as well, for a while.

As for fighting enemies at an angle instead of head-on... isn’t that a common approach in the entire game to avoid being hurt too much? Or is this different?

Hmm that's probally the hardest boss in the game.
Attack his feet from the sides ! with silver weapons should do the trick and keep dotching the bats. So just walk true his feets that just your sword hits him.

But I see you solved it but then got a bad disc. Hmm just get another image then. (while you can )

Wicked! I was just about to ask the very same question here! This batguy has been giving me fits last few days. Thx for tha hints, dudes! And... might I mention that this is my 1st time for playing YS1 as well?
