Hi 2 all,

I'd like to know if there are some utilities to manage CAS files, for ex., insert, delete, modifiy, extract, etc. BIN, BAS and other files to/from a CAS file.
I remember there was a free MS-DOS utility but now I can't find it (made by Ric.Bit?)

Regards.

Such manager of CAS files exists for the Spectravideo (SVI) tapes, it's called SviCasMan and it was very helpful to create the SVI part of the blueMSX cas database :

http://home.student.uu.se/jowi4905/svi/

It should be indeed very useful to have such tool for MSX tapes; I think that for the moment the only way to manage these files is to transferring them from the tape image (CAS) into a disk image (DSK) with a tool like Turbo2000 used in an emulator, then to managing directly the disk image with DiskManager for example.

So, if someone could adapt the SVI tool to MSX, I think that it could be very useful to extend the MSX cas database !

Here are a few Python scripts that can, among other things, extract files from .cas images.

The DskExplorer also has some support for .cas images.

Hello,

A few days ago I went to dig up my MSX tapes. Some of them unfortunately no longer work. I'd like to replace them by finding .cas files of those games and then cas2wav them so I can record new tapes; but .cas files seems pretty hard to come by. Are there any utilities to change .dsk and .rom files into .cas?

Thanks for your time.

Hi, do you know if there is something like cas2wav that converts the CAS into a 16bit 44khz wav? I want to put them into a CD

You can't convert a DSK into a CAS, and also you can't convert a rom into a CAS. But you can convert a ROM into a WAV with WAVER or MicroWAVER.

I have read before the FAQ

Yes, I have the Vicent Van Dam cas2wav, but it converts the cas into a non-standard wav.

Now I'm going to try the utils included with MESS

My original reply was lost;

The wav cas2wav produces is standard, but it is not cd-quality (44khz, stereo). Tools like current Nero only allow 44khz stereo wavs to be burnt on cd. However, you can use any sound editing application to convert the wav to a wav that is compatible with your burning software.

which spl did, and worked
