Ok, here's the deal. What I'd like to do is make the difference in sound-quality of emulation, as discussed in the MSX Emulator Comparison audible, by recording short soundscapes for each MSX Emulator (and on real MSX) on each soundchip.

Because I want to keep datatraffic within limits, custom-made soundscapes of about 30 to 50 seconds would be most suitable. Although I consider myself to be an MSX composer, I don't have a technical approach towards composing music, which would probably not make me the most suitable person to make these soundscapes. So... is there anyone around here who'd like to make a 30 to 50 soundscape, pushing the limits of...

PSG
SCC
MSX-MUSIC
MSX-AUDIO
STEREO (Moonblaster)
MOONSOUND

There's one more catch. As some of the emulators in the test are not capable of running tricky software, I'd need a plain and simple replayer (this can be the tracker itself). In other words: the end-result even has to work in the least accurate emulators of the test, being Zodiac, MESS, fMSXSO, NO$MSX and RuMSX.

Do you feel up to creating a soundscape of either of these chips? Please let me know

Already asked him ages ago. Of course, he only wanted to do an OPL4 soundscape.

Speaking of which, we need to test both the FM and the WAVE part of the OPL4, so that's 2 soundscapes already. You still game, Wolf? ^_^

A neat 30 - 50 second PT3 file would do for the PSG test. Anyone? Vincent?

I don't think I am capable of doing that. I think dioniso is the man you need for a good PSG soundscape that pushes the limits.

There should be one person making these recording on exactly the same hardware... simply because every soundcard has it's own dynamics and ever recording software it's own quircks. So if Wolf would like to step up and take the challenge

This way we have one person working on it.

Important are:
- timming
- sound dynamics
- pitch
- effects
- noise
- volume (although not as important as the previous ones)
- PSG clicks (just kidding)

/me gives wolf a coockie

Snout a real emulator should do all the things you described above... scc/scc+/mb/fmpac/audio etc etc..... if not... too bad.. try harder it should not hold back testing... if you want to do quality testing in my not so humble opinion

Vampier - I want to do the -testing- on the same hardware. I just need a couple of songs to test with. Songs short enough (30 to 50 seconds) to publish the recordings of online. Songs not too unpleasant to listen to, for each soundchip mentioned above. I can then make the recordings and comparison myself.
