Instead of buying an MSX2+, many people upgraded their already expanded MSX2 to MSX2+. But at some time, V9958 chips were rare, so it was a bit expensive.

Just got my MSX2+. Did it myself (the 256K mod) and wow, same results! I'm not only not getting a screen, but I'm also not getting any lights. Gonna check for a short and then reverse the modification. I did check everything with a multimeter, so yeah, I would say that that guide is dangerously wrong and should not be used to upgrade a WX until such time as it can be corrected.
By the way, the guide said that there'd be a resistor at position J2; it was wrong. There was no resistor at J2 on my machine. It said to remove it anyway, so I went ahead anyway.

Hi,
I've upgraded some Panasonic WX/WSX to 512kb, using the niga tutorial. It works fine, but be carefull or your panasonic will die

Yup, looks like there was a TRACE at J2. And I didn't cut it. So all this time the machine had +5V shorted to GND in the memory area. Fantastic!
I don't suppose the machine will still work after having had 5V shorted?

Dead. Nothing comes up on the screen (I get a very brief flicker and then nothing), and none of the lights come on.

I'm not sure. The machine worked perfectly before I messed with it, but it probably would be a good idea to check the power supply at this stage.

Yes, check the power supply, if it's broken you can fix it.

I only upped it to 256K but yeah, the memory upgrade works. I figure if I want more RAM I'll just use an expansion cartridge.
