What are they selling exactly?... recompiled games for PC or real MSX software with some kind of emulation program?

Real MSX software run implicitly on an emulator core |

But it's done the exactly the same way that in the new MSX-Magazine?
Or in other words... could the games be played in a real MSX?
Have any of you ever bought a game from Project Egg?

The software currently sold in Project EGG (or Plus!) can not be played on a real MSX. At the moment, Project EGG is only available to Japanese citizens, but you probably already know about the upcoming WOOMB.net, don't you? |

Well it is maybe wise and time to explain that there are different players.
I see in many forum -topics confused people.
First there is the player of MSX Magazine 1 and emulating MSX1 , together with a pocket pc version
Second there is the player of MSX Magazine 2 and emulating MSX2 and higher also with a new pocket pc version.
Third version is the player with the MSX Gamereader and that one you cannot compare with the above two and is only sold with the MSX Gamereader.

There are indeed different versions of MSXPLAYer, but things are a bit brighter than you assume
The MSXPLAYer that came with MSX Magazine 1 emulates both MSX1 and MSX2
The MSXPLAYer that came with MSX Magazine 2 can also emulate MSX2+ and turboR.
The GameReader edition basically switches between MSX1 and turboR emulation.
Then there's the MSXPLAYers that are bundled with the games in EGG as well, which is adapted to the needs of the game it is bundled with. |

Allright , but eh where does the pocket players go.
The Woomb or EGG games work thus as the pocket pc versions.
So what bothers me e.g. is that you can say will it become for pocket-pc or really normal windows pc ?

The games in EGG (and soon: WOOMB) are all available for normal Windows PCs. Some of these games (not all) are also available for pocket-PC. It is very likely that support for other platforms such as MacOS and Linux is to follow in the future.

Well, I have the first version on MSX Magazine 1 and it emulates also MSX2+ (it's even the selected mode for MSX-BASIC).
I had even hacked somewhat the code to get more RAM than 128 Kb ... if you know the fMSX commands and how to use an hexadecimal editor, it's easy !
But this limitation and the absence of menu to change that without advanced tools is the proof that the MSXPLAYer is not a complete emulator

Mars2000: indeed, the MSX Magazine 1 version even was capable of emulating the MSX2+. As for your opinion on MSXPLAYer: it depends on what you call a complete emulator. Indeed, in MSXPLAYer you can only alter a bare minimum of settings, but this makes the emulator very understandable and user-friendly to about everyone who ever worked with windows. Apart from that, the MSXPLAYer is capable of running about every game you can think of. Many people do not need (or even get scared of) all the extra features many other emulators have to offer. Please keep in mind that most of these extras are only interesting to advanced MSX users, not to people who just want to play a game or two.
Would you call a real Panasonic FS-A1-GT turboR ' not a complete MSX computer' , just because there isn't a V9938 or TMS9918 in it? |

That's not really the same problem !
I don't think that blueMSX users are scared by the extended choice of features that we offer ... See the reactions on our forum, thay are asking for more features ! And we try to satisfy them ... When you'll see what we have added in version 2.2, you'll be even more 'amazed' by the unpredictable development of blueMSX ! |

All I'm saying is: Just because blueMSX offers features other emulators don't doesn't make other emulators incomplete or useless. There's an audience for blueMSX just as good as there is one for openMSX or MSXPLAYer. Heck, there are even people playing MSX games on MESS ^_^.
MSXPLAYer offers all the features a novice MSX game player needs. Not much more, but certainly not less. To those people, it is the same problem. Why would a novice user even -want- to change settings if he can already do everything he wants?
Either way, I'm looking forward to the new release of blueMSX as well. Lets not make this an emulators vs. emulators discussion and continue the discussion on Project EGG. Imanok, has your question been answered? |

Yes, it's quite clear, thanks!
All this came to my mind because of the last game being sold at Project Egg, "Blaster Burn Collection"... I always wanted to have all chapters in an only game and I wondered if it could be possible by getting this one.
By the way... when will WOOMB start to work? |
