Simple, you must use a DOUBLE IDE cable (the same that uses the PC to put in the same ide an HD and a CDROM, for example), plug the hd in the first plug and the CDROM in the second. Remember that you must put correctly the pins in the cdrom.

The bios will detect well the devices, is truly plug & play. In msx-dos if you want to use the CDROM, remember to use and execute MSXCDEX before you execute or insert any disk. It takes 16 KB RAM. As you know also, the cdrom and the HD need external power suply. I use a very good ATX (yes, a new ATX, with a little mod it works well) power suply.

According to the IDE standard, the master device (which your computer boots from, usually the HDD), should be at the far end of the cable, leaving the CD-ROM drive inbetween. Please look at the back for the correct jumper settings, for both the HDD as well as the CD-ROM drive. You have two options:
a) force the HDD master by jumper-selecting 'master' and CDD slave by jumper-selecting 'slave'
b) use the cable-select option on both devices. The order, in which they are connected with the cable will decide which one is master and which one is slave.

Please also note that you'll be needing IDECDEX.COM and not MSXCDEX.COM. The latter one is meant for MegaSCSI interfaces. The latest IDECDEX can be found at the Sunrise website. Good luck!

In my MSX, it only works as I have put there in this order in the IDE cable. (I always use the IDEs in this order) Sorry, yes, the executable is IDECDEX.com ^^

Yes, if everything is connected correctly (and working - some CD-ROM drives simply refuse to cooperate with the Sunrise IDE interface), when running IDECDEX it should tell you which driveletter has been assigned to your CD-ROM drive.

Assuming you don't use any other interface, the first six drive letters (that's as weel the maximum of it ) would be assigned to your IDE interface devices: assuming you have a two-partition HDD and a CDD, A:\ would be your first HDD drive, B:\ the second, and after installing IDECDEX, C:\ would be the CDD letter. D:\ and eventually E:\ would be your diskdrive, leaving F:\ and G:\ available, eventually having H:\ as RAMDISK.

Would this works with CD-RW (for reading DATA files)?
There are plenty of room for more data on CD format!

Of course it would - provided that your CDROM player can actually handle CD-RW. I have an old Hitachi 8x CDROM player. Not really fast, but fast enough for the turboR to not keep up with (turboR reads about 2x). And it's a super stable player, which is handy as well... No up/downspinning shit needed, it just reads when it has to.

Yukio: if you didn't know it yet, MSX can not actually burn CDs (yet?).
