Update:
today I finally found the time (and equipment) to try fixing it and I'm happy to report everything went well (I know it's routine for some but for me this was kind of the first time I modified something like this);
The MSX has recovered well from the operation and now allows me to happily change the volume balance between PSG and FM-PAC/SCC on the fly
