You know some games run really slow under Z80 (most of them, spectrum conversions)...
What games do you run under R800 (or @7Mhz, where possible) to improve playability ? ... I mean not having it as an original feature...
Some examples I use to play (and I recommend you to try, if you haven't):
Conversions
=========
AMC
Angel Nieto Pole 500 cc
Chase H.Q.
Klax
Megaphoenix
Psycho Pig UXB
Shinobi
The Light Corridor
Not conversions
============
Konami's Soccer
Red Zone
Return of Jelda
Strategic Mars
Undeadline
Valis II

SD-Snatcher (both R800 and from HDD)
Solid Snake (Snake sometimes walks damn slow on Z80)
I never use 7MHz (on my regular MSX2), because the sound gets crippled. I know, that can be resolved with an IO-adaption, but then again, the 7MHz expansion doesn't make sense anymore eh |

Solid Snake is a quite curious one... there's a great change of speed if you run the disk version under R800 DRAM mode or the rom version under R800 ROM mode.

So you all mean that if you play those games on R800 processor the music is not playing fast-forward like 7-MHZ?!?!?!?!?

Valis 2 in R800 mode just roocks! The scrooll is smoother than Z80 3,5 and also... the FM music sounds perfectly.
I love MSX turboR  |

Music crashing depends on the replayer of the game, I suppose... in most of the games using FM-PAC, it happens. About SCC, I've never had any problem... by the way, I use R800 too with Konami Game Collections (you know games work a little slower due to the SCC music).

Out's are only for Panasonic MSX 2+ machines. For MSX tR, you need the use BIOS routine. I copy here the complete trick again:
10 A$="!a@-))TZ2":DEFUSR=32777! :IFD2THEN LINE>2COPY0LOADATTR$ELSEA=USR(0)
Change number after "LINE>" like this:
0 = Z80 (ROM)
1 = R800 (ROM)
2 = R800 (DRAM)

No, the R800 is a real and proper 'hardware upgrade'. Music sounds exactly the same since the FM-PAC, PSG and whatever you have on your slots still run on the 3.58MHz clock. |

Idd, I remember being very surprised when I first saw a ROM version of Solid Snake... I thought Solid Snake was actually supposed to be as fast as my disk-version was on my ST... |

Sounds similar to LOADROM-issues: whenever I load A1Spirit.ROM using LOADROM (trunks), it runs slow as hell. I know I'm a sinner, don't have the funds to buy the real thing, pretty much like Solid Snake
When I use the disk loader version, it works brilliantly. Don't know why.
@Snout:
basically, the map's layout @ Grey Fox is this - allow me to insert my puny ASCII art: .---------------------------.
| x x x x x x x |
| |
| x x |
- G S1 -
b x x a
- S2 -
| x c d x |
| |
| x x x x x x x |
\---------------------------/ Your starting position is S1, entered via doorway a. Grey Fox' starting position is G. After finishing the dialogue, walk up to Fox and beat him in the face. He'll start running towards the line c-d, you follow him up to position S2. He'll keep running between C and D. Everytime he leaves C, punch him. When he reached D, he'll come back. Punch him again. Do so until he flashes red (which is quite a while). After that, he'll make unexpected moves, I haven't been able to predict them... Anyhoo, you should manage to kill him with a full health bar . Don't be foolish to walk into mines, denoted by x.
What I'm trying to say: pretty much feasible in R800 mode |
