in case of psychedelia they kinda are. and many blocks form bigger characters!
Yes, Psychedelia was originally written by Jeff, but was converted by someone else... I am too lazy right now to get my Msx from the closet and hook it and load psychedelia to see who "translator" was. There is also another Jeff´s game for the msx. It´s Mastertronic´s "Voidrunner", it plays same way as commodore 64 original, but sadly it has losed some colour (as those colourful characters cannot be converted to spectrum... arghh) and 64 sound is missing too... this is really sad as this game is really easy to convert 99% perfectly for msx too! SOundwise too! and msx game is much slower.
and YES! Inanimate objects CAN be game characters too!!! There ARE commercial MSX games which have heroes and baddies which have not been animated at all.
So.. |

You don't mind I won't take a correction on my remark very seriously, when it's made by someone who puts things like these in the list:
*rockford and fireflies and diamonds and that Boulder Dash Logo which flashes in in-game when you have collected certain amount of diamonds in Boulder Dash
*everything in arkanoid
*ships, planets, sun and other stars and lasers, nah, everything in Elite
Where rockford is the only thing that makes sense

Since this seems to have turned into a "name very MSX character you know" challenge, I think I should mention:
White Knight (Finders Keepers, Stormbringer)
Seriously though, most MSX game characters don't have a lot of, well, character. The only one I can think of right now that does is Snake (I'm sure there are more, but my point is that it's a small minority). Some score points for being cute sprites (like the Bubble Bobble dragons) but other than that there is not a lot that makes me like MSX game characters other than liking the game itself.

yeah, i don´t mind.
one shouldn´t take everything too seriously. And clever reader can easily find "real" characters from one´s descriptions. |

No worries, the megapoll hasn't been forgotten! But due to the fact I have/had to arrange a 2-week-trip to Japan in a very short timespan, it'll take a while before the first round of voting will start. Thanks for your patience |

Hehehe... There also seems to be another title for the game, something like Tsururin-Kun or something. You know anything about it? |

The kanji clearly say 'Yuurei-Kun', freely to be translated as 'Mr. Ghost' (although 'kun' is less formal than 'san' which is usually translated as 'Mr.').

from what I know 'kun' is translated to Jr., like in 'Akumajou Special: Boku Drakula-kun', translated into 'Castlevania: Dracula Jr.'

So, it's something like 'Our friend Mr. Ghost'?
Chardson, I thought that 'ko' meant 'small' or 'child', I didn't know that 'kun' is also used for this. |

Yes less formal, so let's call it "The Ghost Dude" from now on |

Actually, that's quite a nice translation!
@DemonSeed: -kun may imply friendship indeed, but it's used most in hierarchical relations: a boss to his minor and the like. |

And here's round 1. Several nominees were left out, due to them being inanimate (even as a game character ), I also chose to ignore nominees of the 'all characters from all Konami games'-kind, as I'm not going to take the efforts of figuring all those out. Either way, I think with 162 nominees, the most favorite MSX character of them all must have been mentioned already, and that's the point of it all. Happy voting! |
