| Brazil games scene: need info please
| Szczepaniak msx user Berichten: 40 | Geplaatst: 21 April 2005, 14:01   | Greetings
It's me again, and this time I am writing an article that focuses on BRAZIL and their gaming scene.
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, feel free to move it to the correct area.
Now I know the MSX was released in Brazil, and Sander also told me that one of your translators is from brazil, so I thought it would be a good idea to post here again and ask if anyone has any info on gaming in Brazil.
Im after pretty much everything as before. I know there is also a big Sega scene in Brazil, thansk to the efforts of TecToy. (does anyone have a contact email for TecToy?)
Ok, this is what Im interested in again:
Info on:
* Arcade scene
* console scene
* home computer scene
* local games designers and companies
* any games related info that is exclusive to that region from around 1980 to 1999
I am also interested in getting hold of film footage or freeware games/demos made by local people, for use on the cover disc. In fact, ANYTHING that is specific to the region that can go on the coverdsic would ge great:
Demo, games, translation patches, artwork, boxart, extra screenshots, radio shows, film footage, extra reading material, general programs, music from games related bands who play gaming music etc. etc. etc
I always like to include disc content, and the sky is the limit really, as long as its related to games and without a charge. All rights are retained by the original creators, and they get full credit.
(btw, just to let you know, I don't actually get paid for any provided disc content. I always mention this in case someone thinks Im trying to make easy cash by putting stuff on the disc. Freelancers are only paid for their written work, per page.)
Any cultural or linguistic things that are interesting.
I would also like to quote someone on something interesting, in the same way I used quotes from the Dutch article.
Feel free to also provide links to any good info sites.
My email address as always is:
megacdman(at)hotmail(dot)com
Thanks again for any info, it is a great help
regards

***********
Portuguese translators
Leidson Campos
Helio Perroni Filho
Matheus Jose Geraldini dos Santos
***********
Are these Portuguese translators from Brazil, or from Portugal?
Anyway, if they are from Brazil, would it be possible to have an email address for them, by any chance?
Thanks again | | snout

Ive managed to accumulate a lot of info on other systems, and I now just need a little on the MSX.
On a side note, did anyone else have trouble connecting to msx.org these past few days? | | Chardson msx lover Berichten: 93 | Geplaatst: 29 April 2005, 06:14   | On this link, there is some info about videogames in Brazil (and worldwide). And also it is in portuguese.
You want to know the history of the gaming scene or you want to know about the actual scene?
Exclusive games from 1980 to 1999 that I know are the ones made by Renato Degiovanni for Spectrum and MSX1, and some releases by tectoy for Master System (Sítio do Pica-pau amarelo, Street Fighter 2, and tons of gamegear to mastersystem conversions) and Mega Drive (Duke Nukem 3D, Show do Milhão and translated versions of YuYu Hakusho: Makyotouhissen and Phantasy Star 2).
Here you can find Canal3. It is a Mailinglist about old consoles, from Telejogo (Pong) to Super Nintendo and 3DO. And I bet people there are much better informed than me (I am only 20yo, while people there range from 30yo to 40yo). Talking in english with them should be no problem, but if you find any resistance, let me know (I doubt you will). | | SLotman msx professional Berichten: 544 | Geplaatst: 29 April 2005, 14:49   | Here: http://www.madeinbrasilgames.com.br/php/
This is a small list of some games produced and being produced on Brazil, including mine: Penguin Racer - http://www.icongames.com.br or http://pracer.sites.uol.com.br - game which won as the best demo produced on the first "Design and Development of 3D Games" course on PUC university of Rio de Janeiro in 2003 and won the "first Independent Games Festival of SBGames" in 2004, appeared on flipcode and on two TV shows
Oh, if you want you can use the Penguin Racer demo on the site Just let me know if something about it appears on the magazine, because if so, I'll have to find a way to buy me one
One of the most expensive games made here was Erinia, a MMORPG which is now being introduced on Germany as well. Here: http://www.ignisgames.com.br/erinia/
Be aware that there's also lots of people doing web-based games and cell phone games here - including Renato Deggiovani (game creator since MSX days). His website can be reached here: http://www.tilt.net/
As for MSX related games, there are mainly two creators here in Brazil - me, and Ricardo Bittencourt. Some of them can be seen on my site, The MSX Files (http://msxfiles.sites.uol.com.br) and on Ricardo's site (http://www.mundobizarro.tk) - others like Dungeons & Dragons are not (for now ). There are other MSX games made in Brazil, like "666" which can be download from the database here.
Of course, there is also other people Like Daniel Caetano, who created the new "Shinobi" (re-adapting the old non-working version from ZX Spectrum and improved it), who translated Snatcher to English, etc - but I dont know if that qualifies as a "game made in Brazil" - more on Daniel's programs here: http://www.caetano.eng.br/MSXPage/
Also on MSX-front there's Adriano, author of UZIX, which "fixed" a lot of old brazilian msx games (a lot from Renato Degiovanni) which wouldnt work on international MSXs or from HD. More about him: http://www.alsoftware.com.br/adrianpage/index.php?page=msxpage
As a side note, there was a "game contest" funded by the government called "JogosBR", which was a contest in two stages - first anyone could submit ideas; from those some were selected. The second stage, developers chose one of the ideas and made a plan on how to make them. 8 Games were selected for production - and although it is a very small ammount of money given, at least it was a starting point. Check more about the contest here: http://www.jogosbr.org.br
Summing it up, there's a strongly growing game market on Brazil, very talented people who are getting on the market now - and a lot of good games are being developed right now
Well, sorry if I forgot something or someone
| | Chardson msx lover Berichten: 93 | Geplaatst: 29 April 2005, 17:34   | There are other Brazilian games I forgot: TaikoDom, a MMORPG being developed and scheduled for late this year, the old Outlive!, a game that resembles Starcraft. | | jlemos msx friend Berichten: 3 | Geplaatst: 30 April 2005, 00:50   | Hi.

Contact me at this e-mail julio_lemos@yahoo.com | | Szczepaniak msx user Berichten: 40 | Geplaatst: 01 Mei 2005, 15:57   | Wow, thats excellent.
Thank you to everyone who posted information.
And welcome to the forum jlemos, I see that's your first post, thank you for providing such information.
I will also include your website in the collection of URLs that I normally include.
Anyway, that is great, and I now have enough info to work from. Now the challenge is to write everything.
msx.org will credited in the thank you section again, as will everyone here. Chardson's name is in his profile. But I still need SLotman's full name if he wants crediting for the info. It wasn't in your profile.
Thanks again to everyone for your assistance, I will post again once this has been completed. | | marison msx lover Berichten: 98 | Geplaatst: 01 Mei 2005, 16:42   | RicBit, Slotman, Larini have created new and/or ported from others systems games to MSX. There must exist some others, but they are the guys that my memory show to me now...
RicBit (one idol to me) have created games for others systems too, including commercial titles. Genesis, Master System and arcades are some I can remember.
The first entry in MSXdev05 is my game. Cosmic Battle.

Excuse me for my fault.
