I have a turbo-r and i'd like to program a RPG GAME for TURBO-R!

I start to learn BASIC but............the way is long, very long...YET!

I have some questions:

- DO YOU KNOW SOME PROGRAM TO CREATE SPRITES?

- An article on how to create your own MSX Role Playing Games with R-System 3.4 (form MSX MAGAZINE 3) : WHAT 's THIS PROGRAM?WHERE DO I FIND IT?

- DO YOU KNOW SOME PEOPLE THAT THEY AERE EXPERT IN THIS MY PROJECT?
(SOMEONE THAT HE HAS PROGRAMMED AN RPG FROM HISSELF?)

You might try Dante2 instead. I don't know how easy it will be to actually get one, but perhaps you can get lucky on ebay or something. Anyhoo, it provides pretty much all you need to make your very own RPG. Just add GFX and music, stir for a couple of minutes, and taadaa

if you *start* using basic, try anything.. but not an RPG.

I reckon it's easier to make an RPG in BASIC (especially with turn-based fighting), than to make a shooter or even a Street Fighter-ish game (which would only need 2, 3, 4 sprites and just a few algorhythms).

But first you should try something else/easier and get the hang of it, indeed...

Quite some optimism here, though I must say I agree with DemonSeed completely: an RPG is very well doable in BASIC and it's also fun making one. Especially if you use the R800 and the 2+ VDP it might be doable to make quite a nice RPG. You could even consider making one for Gfx9000; you can do quite a lot of very nice things in the Gfx9000 BASIC (what's it called again? Powerbasic or something?).

I once made two small RPG engines; a flipscreen one and a scrolling one, on a normal MSX2. The flipscreen one ran quite nicely, the scrolling one looked nice but was way too slow unfortunately.

You're now talking like him being a more experienced programmer He already stated he's a beginner.. and an RPG is a bit farfetched then I think .. which doesn't mean it's impossible to make an RPG in basic ofcourse, but many high-end coders (ppl we all know) didn't succeed in making an RPG yet... that does mean something.

Hmmm... just don't overdo it. That's the key

@Wolf: the fact that many high-end coders fail in making an RPG has much to do with the standards they are working on. A high-end coder is not easily satisfied, a beginning coder is

I didn't finish my RPG because I did not really want to make an RPG in BASIC (nobody was going to play it anyway); I just wanted to see whether I was able to make an engine. And I can assure you that my programming standards are not very high either

I think it would be better, faster and easier to use Dante2 or this R-System 3.4 (never heard of it before). Everythink you will need/want are already done there, you just need to create gfx, musics, story and learn to use the engine.

Dante should be enough. And there is that CYPHER project going on, isn't it? It is fully made using Dante and it has quite an impressive "pro" feeling, don't you agree?

But you must agree that creating your own RPG from scratch is fun to do as well. Although the result may not be played by many people because the quality isn't that good, it's fun to do for yourself

But indeed, if you wish to make an RPG to be played by many, you might give Dante2 a try
