I just received my copy of MSX Magazine 3 yesterday. The mag looks great, unfortunately I don't underdstand any bit of it.
Still, it would be great to have the information of the magazine translated, not the entire magazine or even entire articles but perhaps the main points of some of those articles. I'm thinking especially about the article on MSX3 VDP (V9978 is mentionned a lot but only V9990 is displayed, also there is a code sample of V9978 Basic in it), the One Chip MSX and foremost, the interview of Hideo Kojima.
Pitty we can't copy the content to babelfish, that would already be better than nothing...
Anyone able to extract any information from those article that can be shared here ?

Ehh Maggoo do you have a scanner ?
Just use OCR software which supports japanese language.
Then copy paste to babelfish.
This should work.

About the V9978 -> Thanks to Bernard Lamers, I know what the article is all about.
ASCII actually developed a BASIC for the V9978, which was going to be the next-generation VDP for MSX (unclear whether this one was for the MSXturboR or for the 'legendary' turboR XT). However, due to a conflict between ASCII and Yamaha, Yamaha removed a lot of MSX compatibility from the V9978, turning it into the V9990. The article ends with information on the V9990, stating that the MSX community adapted the V9990 for use on MSX computer. "In the end, it's the MSX community who decide what the future of MSX is going to look like"

I didn't get a translation from the Hideo Kojima article yet, but afaik there is little we did not know as of yet. At first, Kojima didn't like he was being placed on the MSX development department, but the limitations of the MSX2 computer system finally lead to the most succesful and important computer game series Konami ever released. (And that in a lot of sentences, of course ) |

You actually should thank Bernard Lamers for this one. However, it seems like the turboR XT rumours might have contained an element of truth after all...
(another thing I got confirmed during my stay here: Konami -was- put under quite some pressure not to release game titles on systems other than Nintendo in the past. ) |
