hello!
I'm thinking to buy a TV-LCD. I have seen a Sony of 20" with a resolution of 1024x768. Anyone of you has a LCD and can tell me how "clear" the image is? In the last BCN RU, I saw a MSX connected to a Commodore Monitor and I was amazed to how clear it was!! Simply perfect!! no Blur anymore!!! But as you can imagine I'm considering to buy a LCD instead of an old Amiga monitor...
Any opinions?

IIRC Bodyhammer has a neat 7"-TFT connected to his turboR. MSX-NBNO (quite a well-known MSX group in the Netherlands) showed 15"-TFTs connected to turboRs, on several MSX fairs. Those monitors weren't very clear in text modes, because the resolution was not the optimal resolution for the TFT, and thus the monitor had to apply the stretch feature to cover the whole screen.
I can imagine though, that you could achieve a lot with some kind of upscan device. Good luck anyhow! |

The only "bad" thing about LCD screens is that they are not compatible with light guns. So, forget playing DUCK HUNT on your plasma TV!

With TFT monitors/TVs graphics are more "pixeled". Remember the resolution of MSX computers and then check the resolution of your TFT monitor/screen...

I have my TurboR connected to a 17" LCD/TFT Samsung monitor, it has a SVHS input - the picture is lovely!
THe sound quality isnt the best, but the picture is superb!

Your sound quality is probably bad because SVHS doesn't have any sound connectors |

I'm guessing he's using a Scart plug; you know, scart on one side, svideo and composite on the other;probably with connecting the sound using white/red a/v cables...

Carlos Eduardo has a PSOne LCD connected to his MSX, and he presented it on MSXJau'2004. The image is very good, but the bad thing is that the screen is too small, thus text modes become a bit annoying :/ (anyway, for playing games it's very cool).
djh1697, does your Samsung monitor has RGB input? Some time ago I saw 15" LCD monitors with RGB input. Does your monitor get good image quality in text mode? Or does it become a bit blurry? Remember I'm a MSX programmer, so high quality image in text modes is a must for me.
Oh, and djh1697: can you reply my latest reaction about your MG2 problem at http://www.msx.org/newspost2974.html, please? |

I use a 17" Samsung LCD monitor with S-VIDEO. It works excellent. The screen is more pixelized and it has a little bit of shaddows but I'd definately recommend you to get one.

I have been using a VERY old (probably 20-25 years old) Sanyo DMC 1450 15" video-monitor with my spectravideo for quite a long time now and i have been pretty happy with it. With SVI-machines it doesn't really matter that what kind of monitor you are using because the composite output is very blurry and there is no RGB-output. The sound on the Sanyo is horrible, though.
From the old video monitors the best one is probably the Philips CM 8833-II. It has the best picture when using composite and stereo sound thank's to the two pretty good speakers that it has inside the case. Many old Philips/Commodore monitors may seem to have two speakers because there are two slots for them in the case, but many times only one is actually mounted inside. My CM 8833-II has a problem though, the SCART plug is extremely shitty and need to be in exactly perfect position to work, so i'm kind of saving it for special occasions.
TFT monitor would be nice of course, but the price is too high: old Philips/Commodore 5€ < new TFT A LOT.

I take the audio from the audio output of the Turbo R, the Samsung has small speakers in it.
There is an RGB input via the SCART socket on my monitor, the SVHS gives a nicer picture than the RGB does |
