mmmm.. not so bad news for me... I still don't trust in that new MSX... First, they should implement all the VGA, MSX2 fuctions... and then thinking in selling it. I think this is not a good way to try to sell the so awaited new MSX...

But truly, what's the point of repeating all over again that it won't work ? How's that supposed to motivate the people who are working hard on trying to make it happen ? Given your recent posting concerning your doubts on continuing to maintain your site (which I like very much btw), you should now more than anyone what kind of impact this negative comments can have on the community and developpers...

Ehmmm .... you are confusing me with msxgamesbox, I think

Oops my bad, sorry... I hope you get my point tho. |

I get your point but as it's very rare than I post about the official revival, I don't think that I'm repeating myself.
Besides, in this case, the doubts come directly from Japan, I have just reported what I consider as news (and Gigamix considers it also as news).
Internet is like a great bookshop : if I have the feeling that the info is not complete in one newspaper, then I buy also a second newspaper, and as reader, I can write to the first newspaper to give the missing info and, eventually, my personal opinion.

'official'? Is there a 'non-official' variant too? |

the non-official revival is the amateur fan revival

Oeoeoeoeoe!! the underground non-official revival is a fact!! ...and the comercial revival could be a fact in a near future with that one chip MSX. <positive mode>Let's hope there will be no problems so we can buy that cool piece of hard!.</positive mode> |

I think the word "revival" is so exaggerated...
not that a 1chipmsx wouldn't be nice, but the more uh..likely things are MSX living on in the form of emulation (on either pc or other devices), or the games being rereleased for phones or as parts of collector packs or extra's in new games. And that's already happening too, which is cool.
And even today, fans are still making software for it; or remakes for pc, which is just great (also, many MSX games have seen sequels on new systems, for me that counts as a continuation as well).
But of course; a device like the 1chip would be very cool; one could say an emulator is able of doing the same (if not better), and you have to be fair - the 1chip is a lot like an emulator, but it still has the advantage of being a separate, msx-dedicated device. That's very cool, allthough, with the "commercial" backing the MSX has, very hard to achieve. Still, kudos to ASCII for trying it at all. I hope it will work out, but fear it won't make it.
But ultimately it's the MSX "living on" , it's not really a revival.
A "true" revival would be getting it back on a scale as it was in the 80's. Aside from being virtually impossible, that would be pointless.
I see the 1chip as a device for MSX fans, not as a revival. It's such bad wording...just like "scene" , by the way. Gotta hate that.

I quite like the 'Revival'-term, I'm used to using it ... But indeed, the term is in itself too exaggerated |

One big point is indeed that ASCII/MSXA says that it can later be upgraded to MSX2 (and that it's easily programmable), but this will be quite expensive, because you need to buy that special cable to program the FPGA and IIRC this cable is about 7000 Yen, which is about one third of the OCM selling price.
But, let's see what happens. There's not much we can do for now, I guess. Just wait and see! And keep MSXing.

I think we can manage that. Have someone buying such a cable, bring it to a fair and let everybody upgrade his 1CM for 2 euros orso... Be creative |

Indeed. Besides, that cable can be used for more purposes than upgrading to MSX2, you can start tweaking your One Chip MSX FPGA yourself with it as well. Or install the VHDL code of other developers.

I wouldn't recommend anyone to install that version, it contains some serious bugs ^_^

Wait! What's this about having to BUY a cable to program the FPGA?
Doesnt the OCM come with the necessary cables to change the vhdl code?
If not, than it's even worse! How could ASCII sell it as a "kit to learn FPGA" (an not just an MSX1), if you dont have all the tools to program it?
Another doubt I have, is that PC partition isnt compatible with DOS2 partitions, so even if someone has an SD card attached to a PC, simple "data transfer" wont work... so how someone would be able to copy data to be used in the OCM?
