I agree, but it is also a case of how detailed the images have to be. For MSX gameGFX it is always good to use a real animation program, but for more detailed sprites e.g. 64x64, I still keep opening photoshop... But actually I do that with rescaling a normal image to the spritesize, after that I do the animations using the layers.
By the way, for the drawing course I will soon start drawing as I have found my drawing talet. (By the way, also nice for creating sprites!) I could have done a lot more if I had the philips MSX tablet, too bad...

and when it comes to scaling in photoshop, there's an option to switch anti aliasing off, which can be convenient if you want to keep the pixels intact and blow things up a little...under preferences you can switch the anti aliasing to "nearest neighbour" instead of "bicubic"...can be a neat way to make a small pixeldrawing into a larger one, without making it blurry

Those are examples of sprites ripped around.
The problems are thos I have spoken before:
1) color reduction (the crab)
2) resize and color reduction (the dragon)

Yes, very nicely stolen (the last one looks like it's from Metal Slug - but what do I know about copyrights, right? )
EDIT
Ah you already admitted it, I'll just go over ------> there for a while then

Actually, I do not think anyone can have any legal concern, MSX is a died platform, who cares if I elaborate pictures from old games in order to develop SW for it?
As I cannot earn anything (nor the images owner can loose money), I do not think anyone can be concerned.
Moreover, after resize and colour reduction, there is very few of the original images... (sadly I’d say)

Erm... Have you read the MRC policies yet?
Unlike the MSX system, SNK Playmore (who own the copyrights to Metal Slug 3 - where that crab sprite is from) are far from dead, but I bet that's a no-brainer .
Anyway, I'm confused:
- Music covers/rearrangements = yay!
- Game remakes = knocks 'em dead
- Ripped graphics = MRC staff will even assist you
- post a link to a site containing 'content conflicting with MRC policies' = YOU BAD PERSON!
ps: the problem with the MSX community these days is that few people seem to be able to take a ' ' anymore. |

no, but once the original gives you only the starting point for your own
hard work of sprite editing (with all the HW limitations of our VDP)...
I do not think the final result will look like the original (sadly I say...) |
