I plan to buy Turbo A1ST. Now I have two proposals, one has an unusual s-video output port . What would you recommend ? How will it affect image quality, does it costs 50 euro more ?
Regards,
Michael

How is that possible ?
As far as I know all turboR ST should have exactly the same outputs (UNLESS someone tampered with it).

Idd, all ST's were made alike... In fact, both the GT and the ST have an S-Video output. The only difference between de GT and the ST was that the GT didn't have the composite output or the RF output. (to accomodate the new MIDI connectors) Anyhoo, both ST's should indeed have the same connectors. The S-Video connector is only useful if your TV has one too. The image quality isn't half bad, but it's not as good as an RGB connector. If your TV happens to have an S-Video connector, it might be less of a hassle to connect the cable tho. You could already start MSXing while you solder the RGB cable... |

The GT has SVHS output, it produces an impressive image on my Samsung 17" TFT monitor which also has an SVHS input! Edward (aka Pitpan) was very impressed when he called at my house recently with the picture quality.

| I read that usually ST has no s-video (see link below)

It does, unless there's some odd series I've never heard of... The page is prolly based on user input, and the people who maintain the site have probably never seen an ST in their life. In any event, all the ST's I've ever come across had an S-Video output. |

All three Panasonic FS-A1WSX (MSX2+), FS-A1ST and FS-A1GT (MSX TurboR) have S-Video out. But from what I know S-Video is less popular in Europe, since SCART cables provide true RGB quality, which is better then S-Video.

I personally think the SVHS is far better than RGB, hence I use S-VHS on my Turbo-R. My monitor is a Samsung 17" TFT flatscreen, it has most types of inputs SVHS, RGB, Composite video, TV aerial, and SVGA. Out of all four (not counting the SVGA) the SVHS I think is better!
There is a lot to be said regarding the quality of the monitor, on my 25" Sony TV the SVHS input is no where near as good as the SCART/RGB input. |

Whell RGB is a unmixed video signal all the colors and video information is send separately to the monitor.
With SVHS the colors and image information are mixed and the illumination is send separatly.
And the next step is CVBS Composite video in this signal all ellements are mixed to 1 signal.
So RGB is the best way to transport a video signal.
