| Be sure to replay the sound as natural as it is. I mean, do not equalize it, let the replayer play the WAV files pure. So if you have some equalizer active on your replayer (or bass boost, or something), just DISABLE it. That helps a lot. Then play with the volume level until the MSX get the signal.
|
I've checked that and my settings is all natural.
Im hopeless |

Strange, it should work... Some silly questions: Are you sure the sound outputs from the computer?. Are you gettin' any "Found" message or anything from the MSX-BASIC or just nothing occur?. Do you have any conflict with the wav format mono/stereo 1 channel and your cable so you are not sending any sound with it?. Balance is correct in your audio mixer?...

Tried to play with both your replayer volume and WAVE/General volume on the audio mixer?. Note that volume must be high, but not at the top, try 3/4 of the volume or so to avoid sound distrotion.

Yes, i unplugged my speakers and inserted the cable in the same hole (if it was that you meant).

Nothing, it doesn't happen anything when i play the sound.

I'll examine those things when i get home from work, but it shouldn't be any problems with that.
I still think that my MSX is broke , or is extreamly sensitive to the right volume. |

Hope you get a solution . Sometimes is quite boring tryin' the MSX to get the signal from the tape io port, but that means in most cases just playing with volume. I guess there must be something wrong with the cable... |

even if the signal is faint, it would often give a "find" or "skip" message...it sounds like the MSX is receiving nothing all...
but there could be something else... this may sound silly, but check your sound card drivers and the tool you're using to play WAVE files. I once recorded DATA to C64 tapes and because of some strange pitch error in the WAVE player (I believe windows media player) it was recorded wrong and didn't work properly.

To see if your MSX is working correctly, connect an old-fanishioned tape recorder and try to save some program with it to tape and then load it |

I've tried changing the volume, my girlfriends computer and now winamp and still nothing.
I don't know anyone with an msx (just a c64) so I can't borrow a cassette deck either.
(Edit: I think I'll give up for now, until I get over a cassette deck)

Hi again. Today I decided to give this another try, and it doesn't work this time either. (surprise)
This is what I do: Turn on the msx, type >>bload”cas:”,r<< (without the >> and << of course ) press “enter” and start the playback of the wavefile. When all of the file has been played nothing has happened at all.
FACTS:
When I try to load data NOTHING happens it just stays at bload"cas:",r nothing new whatsoever pops up on the screen.
I have tried to set the volume at all the "lines" in the volume control centre and in addition between all the lines in the upper part of the volume bar. so about 10 different levels.
I KNOW that the cable works as I've connected it to my TV, which began to beep. SO THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CABLE.
I have tested to record data to the tape deck and that worked (not really the tape deck as I don’t have one but to my TV and it began to beep).
I have tried to connect the soundcard to ALL the pins and still nothing happens.
I've tried several different conversion programs, and right now I'm using waver 0.2
Most of the tries has been made with 2400 baud speed, and some at 1200 baud.
44100 Hz at 16 bit mono is my current settings. I think I've also tried 22KHz last time I did this (in august).
I have been using both my own converted files and some already converted ones I've downloaded from the net. Most of the recent tries has been made with the demo.rom file that was included with waver.
I've tried both winamp and wmp10. and at several computers with different soundcards.
I have an SVI 728 (if you haven't read all the thread)
QUESTIONS:
How long should it take for the msx to recognise the program/game that is being loaded. Instantly or when I have played my wave file to the end?
Does it require certain games, i.e. only the ones that was made for cassette, or does it work with cartridge games that has been converted to wav to?
Is my msx broke? I can write but not read data. Or have I missed something really elementary?
Could someone with an SVI 728 try this and post their settings and which game/program they loaded so I can try ian see if it works.
My msx must be broken…
Edit: some things throughout the post. |

You should see something after the first long beep. Are you sure the loading instruction is correct? (I guess you tried it with an emulator.... if not, verify!)

Try first to separate the channels: bear in mind that your MSX has a mono jack whereas the PC soundcard has a stereo connector. Use a stereo-to-mono adapter and use just one channel. Have a look at the MSX jack itself: it has only two segments.
The other possibility, of course, is that the cassette cable or your SVI are broken. Have you been able to load an original MSX tape using a tapecorder?

Then your cable must be connected wrong way... If you are able to hear the signal you have connected the MSX signal output to TV sound input. Now this cable should connect PC sound output to MSX signal INPUT. While making the DIN connections you have propably looked wrong side of connector (instructions you mailed are not very clear)
If you still have problems, you can use this program to test if MSX can "hear" anything. This should output everything that MSX hears to MSX sound output untill you hold space key:
10 A$="F3160701A27F210000DBAAA0045F3E0ED3A0ED78A0B3D3AA2B7CB520F51520F2C9"
20 FOR I=0 TO &H20:POKE&HC000+I,VAL("&H"+MID$(A$,I*2+1,2)):NEXT
30 DEFUSR=&HC000
40 MOTOR ON
50 IF strig(0)=0 then A=USR(0): goto 50
60 MOTOR OFF

Yes I connected the cable on purpose to my tv to hear if my msx could write data, and it could. (I know that it really should be connected to a tape deck )

Thanks I'll try that immediately

Since the msx had a mono input I have converted all my wav files to mono so this should not be a problem, but I'll try to see if I have a 2 to 1 connector lying around somewhere.

I got "syntax error in 10" but I cannot see anything wrong as I wrote exactly as you did
I'm a real noob on this so I might have done this completley wrong but heres how I did it.
typed "auto" and pressed "enter" to get the numbers. Then wrote exactly what you wrote. And at the end i typed "run" and pressed "enter". Is that the way it should be done? |

I tried to load the wav files using mess, and it worked. So the problem is that my msx doesn't seem to recive anything. I KNOW that the cable works, as I can use it with other things, other devices and to write data from my msx. I have connected my soundcard to pin 5 as stated in the pinout in my svi manual. (I have a homemade cable since I didn't get one when I bought the msx)
My msx data input must be broken in some way... |
