Try NYYRIKKI's program indeed. If it works, your MSX is not broken. If you have a Syntax Error in 10, you made a typo.

One of the "popular" problems for the beginners - they join two or more lines of Basic code into one.
Instead of pressing "Enter" at the end of line, they press "space" continuously, and when the cursos jumps into the next line on the screen, they type the number of the next line of code and so on.
Try to type LIST, press ENTER and check whether what you see is what you think you typed.

If you can hear your MSX with this cable there is an error with the pin you have connected, as NYYRIKKI says. Input and output cassete pins are different, so input pin can´t send any sound. Maybe you have looked the wrong side of connector.

| Yes I connected the cable on purpose to my tv to hear if my msx could write data, and it could. (I know that it really should be connected to a tape deck )
|
That is exactly what proves, that you have connected wrong pin. You can use this as SAVE cable but not LOAD cable. If you have connected the pins Ok, you should not hear anything. If you want to make a cable with both LOAD and SAVE you need 2x minijack connectors. One for output and another one for input. (MSX signal out -> PC microphone input and MSX signal in <- PC sound output)

I got "syntax error in 10" but I cannot see anything wrong as I wrote exactly as you did
I'm a real noob on this so I might have done this completley wrong but heres how I did it.
typed "auto" and pressed "enter" to get the numbers. Then wrote exactly what you wrote. And at the end i typed "run" and pressed "enter". Is that the way it should be done?
|
Do not start with "auto", just type everything in and end each line with enter. After you have typed the program, you can use "list" & enter to see your program and RUN & enter to run it.

Ok sorry if I messed thing up. I know which pin is the send pin and receive pin. I just wanted you to know that the send pin is working as it should. I am not trying to load data through the send pin if that is what you think .
Clarification: If I connect my cable from the send pin it works to send but if I connect the cable to the receive pin it doesn't work to load any data.

I have gotten the program to run now. What will happen next, I cannot push any buttons so the program must be running but when i play someting from my computer nothing happens at all, no sound or anything.

Then we can conclude, that the sound input must be just totally dead. |

Ok, my sound input is broken
Is there other ways to load files from my computer to the msx?
Could I create floppys with my pc, with programs/games that's loadable on my msx?
Will this disk drive work?

The drive will work, but only for single sided floppies.
When you tested NYYRIKKI's program, you did play sound on the cassette input connector, right?

Yes, there are double sided external drives, but it's easier to just buy a cheap MSX2 with built in disk drive Or get some other MSX1. |

Alucard: Did you end up solving your problem with the cable for SVI-728? I bumped into exactly the same issue. I do not think your cassette input is broken though. It might well be that the pin layout for Spectravideo is different.
