And again they mentioned MSX in a review!! I just bought Castlevania: Lament of Innocence for the Playstation 2.

So I went to www.ign.com to see what review they wrote about:

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/455/455583p1.html

And yes, they mention Vampire Killer for the MSX in 1986 as the first Castlevania game.

Castlevania debuted on the Famicon Disk System in 1986, one month later Vampire Killer on MSX2 was released.

Why do I think Wikipedia isn't accurate on several things? Why would Konami call it Castlevania first, then Vampire Killer and return it to Castlevania? And they state the MSX2 version being on diskette... which is incorrect of course...

so you think you know the real 'history'?

anyways, instead of complaining about incorrect information, you could try fixing it if you think you know better

What makes you think they did ? The Japanese MSX2 and FDS version were both named Akumajou Dracula. The NES version was released in 1987, and that's when the name Castlevania was born.

I don't know why Konami called this game Vampire Killer and the rest Castlevania.

Here you find the original Japanese title screen:

http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/696

What is the meaning of the Japanese characters: Vampire Killer or Castlevania??

Edit: Oh I see: Akumajou Dracula

It all sounds just so il-f*cking-logical to me... first Castlevania, then Vampire Killer and then return to Castlevania again?

I think the games were released in this way:

1986.09.26 Akumajou Dracula - Famicon Disk
1986.10.xx Akumajou Dracula - MSX2
1988.xx.xx Akumajou Dracula (JAP) / Haunted House - Arcade

And I'm pretty sure it was first released for Famicon Disk than for MSX2.

But who said the famicon version was programmed before the MSX2 version?
Maybe the MSX2 version was already finished before they released the Famicon disk version but they had to wait because of the production of the cartridges!
Just kidding m8s

There is another game called again Vampire Killer. Castlevania Bloodlines, from Genesis, is called "Vampire Killer" too in its original version (image)
