Hello im curious if it is possible to connect an usb harddrive to connect on IDE interface of sunrise or msx scsi interface?
i saw on internet that you can connect an ide harddrive to usb port. but is it possible from this item (sunrise interface to usb storage?) and you need a driver for msxdos?

How do you imagine you do this as the IDE interface has of course no USB connector, nor has your MSX?

Its useless, Hard disks on usb cases are direcctly IDE, you can connet it to MSX without the need of USB cable. If HDD is 2,5" you have to use a 2,5" to 3,5" adapter.

why useless? im using an usb hdd storage, its really handful to use my storage for the ideinterface of sunrise. if i want to use mystorage for my pc, its just simpel disconnect this item then.

manual . check first before your gave an opinion. this is ide converter to usb or usb converter to ide interface for pc. why not for msx? sunrise develops also ide converter for CF and MMC cards for the ide interface.

Really fun this since it quite nonsense we donot develop converters to mmc /sd or whatever, it from the firm pretec as everybody can read clearly if you see the pictures.
I donot think it is the right device to do it I have myself recently bought a sata hdd and a converter to ide. I have not had the time to test but I hope to do it soon.

It's not *that* simple:
If you're using your HDD on a PC, the HDD will mst probably be formatted using FAT32, which is not usable on MSX.
You can reformat your HDD to FAT16, which will make it usable for MSX. But then you (a) need the FAT16 driver on your MSX, which does not work well with each and every application, and (b) will have to be extremely cautious that Wincrap doesn't 'upgrade' it to FAT32.
Best for MSX is FAT12, which limits the partition size to 32MB -- a real pain in the behind on modern 100+ GB harddisks -- but that makes the harddisk close to unusable on your PC.

I'm using Sunrises IDE/CF interface and have 1 256MB CF card formatted to FAT12, which I use exclusively for my MSX, and 1 512MB CF card formatted to FAT16, which I occasionaly use to transfer data to/from my PC. Works like a charm and 640MB is more enough for all my MSX needs

FAT12 FAT16,, fat32 are readable for NTFS partitions?. look if i can use one hdd drive for msx and pc with different partitions, seems a wonderful option. with only one device! im curious about onechipmsx with usb ports. what are their useful for? we know. the option are open right? we look further in the future , pc and msx...lets pray together

Ehm, you're asking here whether one book can read another book.
The answer is no, books don't read books. Partitions don't read partitions. People read books, computers read partitions.

That depends on the partitioning scheme. I don't know if the Sunrise IDE i/f and its belonging FDISK use the same partitioning scheme as a modern PC. If so, I guess you could create two partitions on the harddisk: one FAT12 for MSX (which will be useless to your PC) and one NTFS or FAT32 (which will be useless for your MSX).

Anyhoo, I once got all my data on that FAT16 CF card completely foobared by just inserting it into an WinXP PC. So, all I wanna say is: back up and be cautious

AuroraMSX: you'd better had it inserted in a linux PC, or mounted it as 'read-only' (don't know to what extent that's possible on a WinXP PC), cause Win tends to write some folders and files to every partition/disk. Things like 'recycler', 'System Volume Information', etc. MSX especially doesn't like long filenames (heck, it even occurs when you write files to a 720kB DD disk :-\)

I know, I know. In this case it wasn't my PC so I didn't have much of a choice...

Odd, I've never seen a recycler on my 'transfer disks'... Never had any trouble either, the only annoying thing windoze would do is go looking for icons, which can be a bit of a pain at ~10kB/s.

Moreover, when you write something to a 720kB disk, Windows tends to fsck up the system volume attributes. You can see that when you try to display the disk index in e.g. MultiMente: I once had a disk with 3 volume names or something :-/
