right, nemesis was also released on the nintendo,and to my surprise on pc engine/turbogfx 16 as well.
The music of it sounds different anyway. Kind of scc-ish.
Did nemesis or salamander etc come out on something else as well?

yep... Nintendo, PC Engine, maybe a couple more. You might want to search for its alternate name Life Force though.

Arcade, C64, Spectrum, PC Engine, NES had Nemesis/Gradius and Salamander/Lifeforce;
maybe some other systems did as well.
The X68000 got Nemesis 90 - looks familiar? - http://www.vgmuseum.com/images/x68000/x68k0002.html
Arcade, PC Engine CD, X68000, NES (and maybe others) got Gradius 2/Vulcan Venture; the game that's somewhat similar to the MSX version of Nemesis 3 (Gradius 3 is not like Nemesis 3 at all, and Nemesis 3 isn't called Nemesis 3 in Japan anyways (but Gradius Episode 2 + some Jap. text)).
Later systems got rereleases (like the Deluxe Packs on PC, PS and Saturn (and upcoming PSP one))

Nemesis was released as an arcade game, under name Gradius. Also Gradius 2, 3 and 4 were released as arcades. I think the arcade version was released first after which it was ported to the consoles.
C64 has versions of Nemesis as well as Salamander (check www.lemon64.com). For a C64 game, nemesis is not even that bad, particular graphics-wise.
Also there is a Gameboy release, but I've never played it. (Though I should have it, i've got a huge emu-collection).
Check http://www.classicgaming.com/gradius/index2.html for a nice gradius related site. However it is not complete on all versions. |

X68000 has Salamder too. (and Gradius 1, Gradius 2, Nemesis 90)
And also "Gradius Spacial" which has Pacmans and Star Ship Enterprises for enemies
Also little monkeys on the ceiling and ground, and the vulcanos shoot sorbets and berries. |

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Gameboy ...
There were two Gradius games on the original GB (mono);
The first was an adaption of the first Gradius/Nemesis, with some new stuff thrown in, and I think some parts from both Nemesis 2 (the MSX one) and Gradius 2.
The second Gradius on the GB mono was an all new title (and the better of the two, in fact). It was known as Nemesis 2 in Europe and as Gradius Interstellar Assault in the US.
Now we haven't talked yet about newer Gradius games and all the Parodius versions
Oh, semi-OT, but Quarth and F1 Spirit also had GB versions, btw... |

Ah,interesting...was listening to the pc engine music of salamander,which sounds msx alike,but different.
Pity that other konami NES pentaro game didn't get ported on msx by the way.

I played it and it's a game where you need to get your girl-penguin to love you by not being too fat at the end of the level O_o.
Yes, weirdness all over, but 1) it's a nice platform game B) It's from Konami III) It's got pentarou in it! |

nemesis and salamander on amstrad too.
spectrum and amstrad versions do differ from msx version. both versions does not allow collecting arms little by little like in MSX version, if you collect one capsule, that´s it, you have full-powered weapon. I remember there was different capsules for different weapons. Maybe that was in salamander.
and in both versions, when playing first level of nemesis on example, you don´t fly to that cavern, you are just flying in space and suddenly, "cavern" materializes around your ship. Evil plan of Bacterions? nope, evil plan of european Konami employees
and both versions look identical, except amstrad has cOlOuR.
commodore 64 nemesis is almost same as msx nemesis, some bigger enemy death-explosions are missing thought. i don´t remember was there end animation at all. title hires picture is missing too.
BUT: I have played nemesis on 64, and with emulator. Then I read from the net that 64 version has SPEECH! (there was certainly no speech in ´64 nemesis I have played) maybe that has something to do that c64 has both Gradius and Nemesis versions. Thought I do remember that they look same. |
