I just started buying MSX stuff several months ago and recently I bought a MSX2+ Sony HB-F1XV. It's a japanese model. So far I've tested only japanese games on it, but I would like to play Metal Gear and Nemesis 2 in english. Are there any problems playing european games on a japanese MSX2+?

afaik a real ROM should always work .. if you're talking about 'diskversions' of cracked roms, they prolly need 128k, while typical japanese computers usually have 64k. (except the tR)

One little detail though, even European version of Japanese games will switch to Japanese when played on a Japanese MSX. Three times Japanese in one sentence, that's new! |

There are 2 versions of Metal Gear... a Japanese one and an English one. The Japanese version won't even work in a non-japanese MSX and the English version won't switch to Japanese in a Japanese MSX.
Nemesis 2 (and several other Konami titles) display Japanese in a Japanese MSX and English in non-japanese ones.
[several others]Konami Synthesizer, Nemesis, Penguin Adventure, Vampire Killer, Maze of Galious, Usas, Game Master 2, Salamander, King's Valley 2 and Nemesis 3[/several others]

Thanks guys. One last question. Underneath my Sony MSX2+ there is a battery compartment. What are the batteries for?

MSX2 has a clock and some small memory powered by these batteries even when MSX is switched off.
