Is there some chance to obtain such kind of hardware? I mean those MSX and MSX2 Yamaha KYBT devices.

In the Russian section of the forum, I read that someone bought a decommissioned lot of Yamaha KYBT MSX'es. I will look it up again. Perhaps the buyer would want to resell a few of them...

Indeed!. I would be happy to put my hands on one of those Russian models!. I've a spare Brazilian machine that maybe could be used for swapping... |

The discussion thread is about how Alex's 20-year old dream became true as he purchased an entire classroom set of Yamaha machines (and that the decision to buy them was impulsive).
The set includes:
1 x YIS805/12R2 w/ EIZO 8020 colour monitor
10 x YIS503IIIR w/ EIZO 3010 monochrome monitor
1 x Star Gemini 10XR printer
All totalling US$150 (decommissioned stuff)
I hope this helps
Surely, we could always ask Alex to consider selling us a few (unless he sold them already) |

Last time I saw Yamahas in Estonia probably it was in 1999. There were a lot of Yamaha's (student and teacher ones) at one of secondhand electronics shop in Tartu. I bought one of them cause I needed a good birthday present for my good friend And when I wanted to buy another one for myself there were no Yamahas any more at this store. Price was about 150 EEK (about 10 euros) and I think it was MSX2 student machine.
For me it's just nostalgic stuff, at present I use emulators (there are a lot of them, I use OpenMSX) and ROM files for games and for some programming, but I always wanted to have a "real" one too |

The reason for not using MSX in ex-USSR is that 90% of them are diskless, and nobody sells cheap disk drives. In fact, almost nobody knows about Sunrise's existance, and also about MSX-link or WAVeR.

In Spain the disk drive was also a rare bird; but as the software spreaded was mainly MSX1, the tape was enough. Luckily this situation was the same for the other computers like Spectrum, Amstrad (until the 664/6128 arrives) and Commodore; so the competition was more or less fair between them. The tape tools are still popular in Spain... |
