What is the legal status of the MSX-DOS?
The old version, MSX-DOS version 1.03 , COMMAND version 1.11 is copyrighted 1984 by Microsoft.
What's about newer versions?

Mr. Nishi of MSX-Association decided the MSX-DOS system files may be freely copied a few years ago... in his lecture he held in Tilburg in 2001 to be exact.

By the way, some programs don't work in MSX-DOS 2.30!
Does anyone have a MSX-DOS2 cartridge lying around?

Yukio: you could try just to use msxdos2.sys ver 2.20 instead of 2.30. 2.30 uses 256 bytes more TPA

that one doesn't exist, or it's some unofficial one by HPN, who are common to claim software from themselves even though they didn't write it... only thing they did is change the version number and the copyright notice...

There's only a COMMAND2.COM version 2.42, which -- afaik -- runs with any version of MSXDOS2.SYS. It has a lot of extra commands built-in, TAB-completion on filenames and other comfy stuff. It's almost as comfortable as bash  |

I used to use sys 2.30 with command 2.41, but I have found out by testing that 2.30 uses 256 bytes more tpa. The best combination for tpa size is sys 2.20 with command 2.41. Even better than with command 2.20.

Yes, this does work. Now, I have a disk formated in MSX-DOS with MSXDOS2.SYS and COMMAND2.COM!
