Hi,
I've recently gotten hold of a Toshiba HX-10 and thought that with no cartridge inserted it would bring up basic.
My one flashes the MSX SYSTEM, VERSION 1.0 screen, is there something wrong?
I've tried presses keys but can't seem to get it to budge. Keys are 'clicking' so assume they are okay.
Any advice would be very much appreicated.
A confused and probably about to made to look very silly noob.

It should go right to basic after that screen. If it keeps flashing, it means it's in a continuous reset loop, could be caused by some short-circuit somewhere. Check if there's no loose stuff inside the case or in the cartrdige or joystick connectors.

Hi Manuel,
Thanks for the speedy response.
I've taken a look around but there's nothing that looks obviously wrong.
Looks like it's faulty. Oh dear.

An MSX1 like the Toshiba HX-10 is easy to get, so you could simply go for another one.
On the other hand, a short circuit can be caused by tiny things, like small grains of iron or so. Check the PCB's and connectors carefully!
On the other other hand: if you have a short circuit, the MSX mostly won't boot at all, and just show a black screen. Maybe your ROMs were eproms and came loose a bit? You could try to press your EPROMs on the circuit board.

Good point about the rom chip. Maybe the one that houses basic is loose. I'll take a look and see what happens.
It might have come loose in transit. Thanks for your help.

Does the machine operate if a ROM cartridge is plugged in?
