shinwano, you are right of course. Just checked MG1 on my 6630 and there seems to be a bug in the PSG emulation, perhaps introduced in the 1.08 version. I'll release a new version later this week (1.10) that fixes the problem and brings the possibility to save/load/reset keyboard/joystick settings. All this is already done and working, I just need to find a little bit time to build the b and c variants, package them, upload and update my www page. I'll let you know in the "main" fmsx/s60 thread in this forum when it's out there for download. Sorry for releasing buggy software (again)! :-)

When I'll switch to a new cell phone subscription, I'd like to have a fMSX/UIQ as well ... The Sony Ericsson P910 looks *so* great... No doubt they'll release a follow-up for that phone with Symbian UIQ, but as UIQ isn't compatible with S60, I'll not be able to play with fMSX/S60

I'm not aware of an MSX emulator for S40 so far but perhaps a Java based MSX emulator could be ported? Performance probably wouldn't be too great though.

UIQ I'm not considering at the moment, I already have too many branches of the emulator with support for different S60 OS versions and more to come...

Don't praise my emu too much or I'll start feeling guilty about never testing the stuff properly ;-) But I'm happy other people have found it usable even if mobile phones tend to have awful keypads not really suitable for gaming.

yes,
but you can always use a BT keyboard, right.
i personally wouldn't mind configuring all the keys.(i do not own a bt keyboard.....yet)
anyway, the existence of such an emulator (even if it is buggy,)it's worth praising.
doesent anyone use this cool stuff??

You know, I have a question too... but, this is more of a problem, rather than a question...

Take in account, though, that the cellphone were I'm trying to install the thing is an N-Gage

Now,for all of you guys who have the emulator, know that you have to install a special .sis file to activate the roms (both sistem and game files) installed on the emulator (I'm installing it on my MMC)

Thing is, the tool kit the site gives you worls for the 1.10 version, NOT for the 1.07 version (the only compatible version with the N-Gage). So the .SIS file the program gives you doesn't work!!!

Does anybody knows how to program the fmsx_roms file to make it compatible with the version 1.07 again???

Thanks in advance

Ok, update of the problems:

Since I've already given up any hopes of finding the system tools for v.107 (BTW, I can't install v.1.10... it isn't compatible), I began looking for OLDER system tools. On http://ngage.dcemu.co.uk/fmsx.shtml I was able to find the s.t for ver. 1.04, and after downloading it I THEN downloaded v1.04 via the history sectoin of the main page (http://personal.inet.fi/private/riihimaki/s60/fmsxs60.html) ... unfortunantly, after doing the whole thing (making both the .gz and the .sis versions of the roms, moving them to the MMC, etc), the installer of the roms doesn't works!!! (In the middle of the process, a system error appears and the installation stays incomplete... and the roms doesn't works).

(BTW, the games I'm trying to play are metal gear 1 and 2... the 2 roms I own have been tested with nlMSX already, and they DO work).

Please, I need some help here. I'm deperate.

Thanks in advance,
El Cernex

Ok... error fixed... just in case: The trick is that, if installing the emu in an MMC (like I did), you DON'T need the system tools... apparently, you need to copy the files (.roms) DIRECTLY as they are to the emu's directories.

So there, I did it and the thing worked perfectly. What the heck does the system tools do then??? Theory is, they install the roms WHEN you installed the emu on the cellphone's memory. I guess, of course,

Now, the remaining problem (but on a VERY inferior scale) are the keyboard configurations... as N-Gage's "keyboard" appears with such keys as 0*0005, LeftSK, 0*007e... I mean, is rather confusing...

El Cernex, you are right, the tool to create sis files for games on my site is rather outdated as in modern S60 phones you can access the file system via the PC Suite. This was not the case when I wrote the emu -- in fact, with Nokia 7650 and the old PC Suite for it this was pretty much the only way to get the games into the phone. Also, perhaps using Sousuke's PC program might have helped you a lot, I have a link to it on my page. Anyway, it's a lot easier to just copy the files under the proper folders on your MMC or phone if you have the necessary tools/means to do it. As a late reply to your question about how to modify the tools for v1.07, there are two places in the .pkg file that have the number sequence "1,10", near the beginning of the file and near the end of the file -- just change those to "1,7" and the tools will create sis files for version 1.07.

About the key codes -- the emulator only has a "human readable" name for the standard S60 key codes. While the emulator does support all possible keys that the OS reports, it just shows the hex number value for the keys it doesn't now the names for. I agree this can seem difficult to read but I didn't want to start inventing names for non-existent keys "LeftSK" means the left soft key.

I have a razr v3 phone and I am able to play S60 games on it. What is an SIS file since I can only upload JAR files to my phone.

SIS = Symbian installer package. On S60 it's runnable so you can install the program.

JAR files are Java applications, and they do not have anything to do with S60 platform it self. (Exept, that they can be run on it as well) The good thing on Java applications is, that they can be run on any CPU or platform.

SIS files are used to install native S60 applications to phones. They are pretty much like CAB files on Windows. They contain all the files, that are required by the program and are extracted to phone memory.

The difference is quite same as running either native PC applications or MSX applications trough emulator.
