I found a fairly cheap cart-only copy of Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior) on eBay and picked it up pretty much for the price alone. Will it run on a Yamaha CX5M MSX unit? There are so many different types of MSX computer with different amounts of memory and such, so I'm kindof having a hard time telling what is what. I DO know that I did indeed get the original MSX version of Dragon Quest and not the MSX2 re-release.

My CX5M have 32kB RAM. Not sure if this was standard for the machines or if they come with different configurations. Many games requre more memory but not sure about DQ.

Why don't you just try it? Most MSX1 ROMs require only 16k or 32k of RAM anyway. As you have already purchased it, it can't hurt to try. It won't break anything.

This type of information is written in the game box. At least for most games.
Sure that in our days, not everybody buy complete games!

It should work just fine. 32K RAM is probably the most common configuration for MSX1 systems. 64K is more of the exception.
You need 64K to run MSX-DOS, so you can't run MSX1Mania collection on your CX5M. But all cartridge games, including megarom games like Nemesis 3, will work just fine.

It should work with any MSX (16KB RAM).
Since most computers have 32KB or even more (64KB) main RAM, this should not be a problem.
Maybe later, you will need to find a Dragon Quest II for MSX 2!
