To me it's just another gaming site...

seems like an automated one as well... e.g. just robots gathering new content for the site, no actual maintainers. Although the concept is nice, this often results in a website without personality. A shame. |

What about personal contend created for game sites?
If someone wanted, there is the possibility to make reviews and other analyzes of the games ... I was thinking in request and making some FAQ contest!

It's not a robotic site and is mantained by a bitter and grouchy grouping of people like myself -- so there!
And as such, it is clearly an awesome site!

Sorry! I see nothing awesome there.

Yukio (a fellow El Viento fan) creates the topic... it's at an MSX site... the topic's about the site I work for... how could I not register and post? =)
Our goal in creating an MSX section was to give gamers a 'fancy' venue in which to share their love of the system, among the others the site covers. We also want to provide extensive, accurate information about a system that not enough people know about.
Since I personally own a few MSX games (Xanadu, Romancia, Megami Tensei Monogatari) I was really happy to see this section get added. We may not have a ton of review/FAQ coverage up (yet), but we have been working to make sure the data is updated and *accurate*. We always welcome well-written contributions from people who know their stuff!
The site's potential for awesomeness is pretty much determined by the people who visit and contribute. I like to think that HG has its own unique personality:
1) along with MSX, we've got an X68000 section (a work in progress -- I'm still slowly updating as I dig through my boxes of games in the basement)
2) forum users regularly talk about and contribute stuff for awesome games like Fallout and El Viento (which has four glowing reviews already posted)
3) staff members from three regions (US, Europe, and Japan) review imports and cover news on cool companies like Falcom (15 hits came up when I searched "Falcom" in our news section)
4) Fun reviews for manly games:

Thanks for actually reading through all of that. Now that I've broken the laziness barrier and registered, maybe I should actually poke around this place. ^_^

You registered a account, it is a good thing!
I was thinking about the writer of the reviews for the Wolf Team titles ...
Now that you come here it should be easier to talk.
I was thinking about a registration on HG.

At least two members of staff with enough time on their hands to follow hit-tracking links? |

Cool, cool. I really need to review more of the WT games though...
That and Falcom are two of my favorite companies.

Yes, some of the coolest things on 8-bit machines. There are even versions for 16 and 32 bit architecture.
I also like Hudson Soft games ... Compile games too!

Don't let EmP fool you, we're not all grouchy and grumpy. Just him. He calls me names, accuses me of larping, and blinds me daily with his horrible spelling.
I can't say I know much about computer games or MSX or even El Viento (except that Zig once had what I think was an El Viento avatar with a really nice behind) but that's what I really like about HG: You can find a wide variety of reviews for games that you probably wouldn't find reviewed elsewhere, and at the same time we have a fairly good stream of recent reviews. Not only that, but our reviews are (with rare exception) well-written. And most of us don't just sit-down and write some fifteen minute review. When you read a review from EmP or Zig or just about anyone who regularly submits to HG, you can tell that they put good effort into it. The bar is quite a bit higher than normal reviewing sites.
Not only that, but if you're not that good of a reviewer and you want to become better, we'll seriously help you with that. We'll critique work. If someone likes your review or disagrees, all they have to do is click the link at the bottom of the page and a topic springs up for them to ramble. We have a solid community of reviewers who'll give you tips, help you out, maybe even give you full critiques without asking for it. Granted, they can be jerks sometimes...a lot of times...but overall they mean well. Even EmP. I think.
So yeah, that's all I have to say. It's not a perfect site by any means, but if there's a better place for submitting reviews and improving the craft, I haven't heard about it.
