I never had a MSX in its golden ages (I played it at a friend's house), but one game that disappointed me a lot is Ultima 4 for MSX2. The Master System version was great (great tunes and graphics), one of the best. But it was played with a gamepad, what takes out a great element of the game that is having a lot of diferent commands and the guessing of names and holyword of virtues.
I thought a MSX2 version would have even better graphics, FM tunes and keyboard, as is with almost every RPG game in MSX compared to the SMS. But it was not the case. Cutscenes were made looking like a "more colored" spectrum, full of artifacts in the pictures. The FM tunes somehow managed to be worse than 4-channel SMS PSG. And they made the game on screen 5, with a completely choppy and very slow software scroolling. They simply made the game unplayable, and it costed 49000 yens.
Later I discovered that they got the X68000 version and made it run on MSX without any special adaptation, ignoring the diferent hardware. They were just using the license to earn even more UNFAIR money.

| o.O Feedback is an amazing game. Loved it. Ok, the 'space-levels' suck arse, but mainly due to the insane 'music', the rest is very nice...
|
iirc those spacelevels did have music when not using fm-pac. |

That crazy noise of spacelevels when using FM, is NOT present in the original game: it sounds fairly ok. The problem arises only with certain crack of the game, widely spread since the early nineties, which has corrupted data in the disk sectors where that music should be stored.
BTW, I loved this game too It was one of the selected games I used to run for impressing Amiga folks, along with Aleste 2 or Valis II. |

California games. We played it 'countless' hours on my friends C64, it's still great fun with my xbox...
I was so excited when I bought the Msx version, Yes finally I can practise all events at home!
Shit, I was disappointed when the cassette player got done with loading that piece of SHIT!!
That must be some of the worst software EVER sold for msx.

Not MOST of the Spanish games are MSX BASIC games disguised by binary loaders
Anyway, MSX BASIC games are not "a bunch of crap". I respect all the MSX BASIC coders from KAROSHI'S FORUM MSX BASIC CONTEST, for instance.
Hey! Don't worry; I didn't take it personally although you comment was a little bit ... extreme. |

Sure!, like the ones done by ASCII and dozens of other japanese developing companies. So, MOST of the Japanese games really sucks!.
Now seriously, the correct expression is "SOME Spanish games are a bunch of crap" |

Mask III is not crappy! It has awesome intro music! And the game is rather playable and not bad in graphics.
I think that we can say that most spectrum conversions are really crappy. At least graphically.

I heard someone say, that Konami started a small company in England and the first game made by this 'konami'-newbies was green berret.
Because the color use, music, and game play was so-NOT-konami, that the big dudes from Japan immediately closed their office in England.
So, in my ears you can still tell your friends: "That game wasnt a real Konami", |
