The arcade joysticks with adjustable turbo appear to be better.
Sure that you also could try to use the generic MSX joystick. That joystick made by several companies .

MegaDrive Joypad is compatible with MSX.
But Pin 9 of MD Joypad should be moved to Pin7.

I use one from Master System. I think it is the best. Of course you need to adapt it, exactely like the Mega Drive one.

You do not need to get a adaptor. A connector type is same. MD(or Master System) Joyppad is directly connected with MSX Joystick slot. It is not difficult to disassemble the connector and change pin array.
In my experience, Pin 7 of MD Joypad may not be used in MSX Joystick, so just pull it out and remain a disconnection. Move Pin 9 of MD Joypad to Pin7. that's all. Try it  .

But then you won't be able to use it on SMS... The MD one, it is required to strip off a chip from it, so it wouldn't be usable anyway, so you can do the disassemble thing. |

I want to use a SEGA Activator. 
Not sure if it would be any good for intensive action games ...
