it is because we were >40 years under the fascism rule of Franco and the boicot to/from Allies.

Anyway, until 15-20 years ago (when english become the "universal" language for business) we should learn french and portuguese more than english (we're neighbours), I guess...

It's just a cultural matter: we were an empire and some people seem to think that we are still one. Besides that, foreign languages are not perceived as necessary by most people, and formal education still follows this dynamic. As a matter of fact, I received my first English lesson when I was 12.

Despite being far from perfect, my English is good enough to allow me to understand and be understood - that's not the rule here: most people in Spain do not get a single word out of ten in spoken English. But they consider that some broken written English is enough for mantaining a fluent communication. I seriously doubt it.

And do not forget a subtle difference: in Spain all broadcasted material is translated into Spanish: movies, soap operas, fiction, etc. Not like in other countries. It does make a difference. I am missing my cable tv right now!

Weren't we talking about BOMBERMAN?

On being multilingual: Wolf, you're Dutch... the Dutch are weird. They are known for speaking (and/or trying to speak) quite a few foreign languages. Other countries are quite different in that. Take Japan for example...

but I agree with pitpan, lets continue the discussion on how cool the original Bomberman was, and how horrid the upcoming act zero one looks... *shivers*

in japan, which many non-japanese fancy so much nowadays, many people do not understand or talk english.

I have wondered that for years, as in their culture hard working in school and workplace is a must thingy.

And still they are culture who can´t speak english too well.

( says the one who is not master either... heh! )

Maybe it is because their government does not like foreigners?

In Darwinia you can shoot centipedes in 3D: screenshot. If you hit them, they break into multiple smaller centipedes, true to their heritage.

I like the way they integrate retro elements into this game, for example when you boot the game you can get different intros, including a flashing colours loading screen and a scene with 3D objects which looks like it comes straight out of the demo scene of 15-20 years ago. And the units you control in-game are called programs; you can switch between them with ALT-TAB and abort them with CTRL-C.

indeed, what the hell did they do to the gfx of bomberman? It's not like it's friggin spawn or something.
Man,the total style of the gfx get f*cked up like this. A pity in general with 3d games, they all start looking the
same since everyone uses similar engines. Back in the days, you could see the graphical skills in 2d,
no way to hide behind 3d modeling and fancy lighting, no, you had to know how to DRAW !!!
THAT is what makes mario stand out, or sonic, or bomberman, or so many more classics.
(okay and a bit of gameplay and some nice sounds too haha)
