That "doom" for spectrum is very, very poor. I got that demo, and it's not near a finished game (lacks decent collision, no enemies, etc)
And remember, Spectrum video is faster than MSX1 or MSX2 video. We would need at least ADVRAM for that
As for MSX games, I couldnt care less about RPGs - there are tons already. Same for shooters or tetris clones.
I agree, platform games (like Vampire Killer, the Cure, Contra, etc) are nice, and there are few games for MSX in that style (specially MSX2).
Some classics from other machines could be ported to MSX2, just choose the one you like
I'm doing my part, this month I should release Atomix and Carmen San Diego (finally!) for MSX... both have temp pages (with screens) on my site.
If I get more free time - I just won a gaming festival with my PC game "Virtual Marbles" (Bola de Gude in portuguese) and I am veeeeeeeery busy right now with it - I'm certainly doing more stuff this year

Slotman, there is a Doom for Spectrum (for the Russian clone Pentagon) which has music, enemies, etc... and it's not this game which a image appears in this thread.
Actually, I've finished some years ago the complete game, which has a very big level. Unfortunately, it has never finished, but is impressive. The "other" Doom, yes, it's very very very poor.
Well, talking about your games I waiting them I've enjoyed a lot BreakFree

Yeah, the one in the thread is the one I tested...
Wow, this one actually looks VERY good! Edit: I found it, going to test it on a emulator to see how it goes

hmmm... I just played, and it's not doom
It's wolfstein with doom graphics... doom has different heights on the floor, there are "columns" and windows on walls... this is just the old "flat wall and fixed sky/floor" wolfstein uses.
but very impressive anyway

I think it´s technically very impressive to have wolf 3d on 8-bit machine...
I also think that we have enough horizontally and vertically scrolling shooters....
unless someone can make something VERY DIFFERENT.
Why they always must be space shooters....? I have seen JUST TOO MANY space shooters....
I prefer more something WEIRD and SURREALISTIC shooters, with very strange things to shoot, like... hamburgers, toilets... anything, as long as it is not animal cruelty. |

but if you want to hear something which is never seen on MSX.....
I have dreamed for years that hopefully someday ....
...someone makes ...
******** 3D VECTOR GRAPHICS PLATFORM GAME FOR MSX(1) ! ********
something like Crash Bandicoot!
or can you say you have seen such thing on MSX?
We just have only few vector games on MSX(1)..... Elite, North Sea Helicopter.... maybe some others.... Return of the jelda on MSX2..... and that´s almost it!
Monochrome vector graphics would be enough....
sprites can be added for special fx, like explosions.
Don´t say MSX is too slow for such game.
Elite runs smoothly. And is not TOO slow even when there is lots
of enemies near.
I don´t mean it must have as much details as Crash Bandicoot has. Of course not!
Simple "ground" with few lines is just enough. Something like Antarctic Adventure on Vectors.
Another idea could be use vectors for ground and trees etc (of course it must have something to avoid, like trees or walls, not just holes in the ground which gets soon very boring) and sprites for hero and enemies.
It CAN be made somehow!!!
Anyone?

Of course, if vectors scare you... then Crash Bandicoot style game CAN be done with characters like Penguin Adventure, except THIS game should have even more things on screen, like tree leaves appearing NEAR when you run under tree branches etc...

WHAAATT!!?!
I just downloaded that movie and I must say IT LOOKS JUST AS GOOD AS ORIGINAL WOLFENSTEIN 3D!!!!!!!!
If that game really runs on spectrum, it is unbelievably FAST!!! |

talking about 3d huh
What about a low poligon model creator for MSX
not to render only to produce lowpoligon stuf.......
And i think that you can build a nice doom with some math some code and some
imagination...
there was a demo on msx called CALCULUS from Computania some where at the end there was some heavy MATH routine that streched a picture very impresive

I assume you already saw the 3d poligon stuff that I released?

If somebody would make a compatible creator .....

Ok this feels like bait, but I'll respond with an old webpage I once created anyway

MäSäXi: in 1985-86, Electric Dreams software released I OF THE MASK for ZX SPECTRUM with TOTAL REAL 3D full filled graphics. Is for me, one of the most impressive games I've saw.
In this video: http://www.cmp.liv.ac.uk/shrike/speccy/1985.mpg
You can see it running. It's really impressive... is SPECTRUM, is 1985!!!
Why not in our MSX? IT'S POSSIBLE!
Yours,
PD: TRY IT in a emulador. And watch the video! |
