In a nostalgic mood, I'm revisiting some MSX forums again. I've done a bit of MSX coding when I was younger, and now it seems a pity much of this experience is lost, given that people still program for the machine. So!
If anybody has any questions regarding Sigma/Parallax development things, preferably technical then please feel to post them in this thread and I'll see what I can dig up from memory. No promises though, and I definitely don't have infinite amounts of time for this, but I'll try.
Now, let's see whether you've got some good questions
cheers,
Cas (Cremers) |

ok, here's one.
What are the odds of you doing a new (msx2-)game from scratch, ready for sale around april 2007? |

In my current jargon the probability of that is $x$, where $x < \epsilon$.
(But you can just read 'no' for that ) |

question 2: Can someone change/improve that chance? (for ex. offering help etc.)

Nope, not at all. I thoroughly enjoyed my MSX period but I've left the scene many years ago and haven't touched an MSX since. So this is out of the question. I'm just offering bits of (fading) knowledge... actual coding/producing stuff is not an option.

Hey Cas... good to see you hanging out here. Welcome (back)! Perhaps a bit of a follow-up on Wolf_'s question... what are the odds of the remaining Core Dump sources becoming open-source (or sent to someone) in order to more or less finishing the game after all? ^_^
(God, thinks parallax, those MSXers never change... why did I come back here in the first place?) ^_^

Well, it's nice to see people enjoyed the games. Hmm, about sources, well when my harddisk crashed I had an ancient backup (yes we should all backup more, I have learnt my lesson from that) but I don't think these would help you very much. Somewhere in my parents' basement there should be a box of floppies containing those sources, maybe even predating the promo. If they were found, and would turn out to be readable, I don't think they'd be of much help, so you'd be better off asking questions here !
And no, I don't mind the questions, otherwise I wouldn't have posted.

Are you making games for something other than MSX now?

Nope, not at the moment, and it isn't likely in the future either, but you never know.
(Funny: I expected questions of the sort: How did you get X to do Y, or how does Z work?)

Well, quite some ppl here advanced on programming/drawing/gamedev over the years. Even when realizing your MSX CV, I really wouldn't know what to ask.. perhaps other ppl are under the same impression? |

Nah. But if you're right Wolf, then surely you don't need my help in completing Core Dump...

Well I'm not an MSX-coder, so I'm not the right one to ask, I only do music & gfx (and xdev tools like gfx-editors/map-editors, basically anything related to 'art').
Apart from that, you stated that the CD sources were old etc. so completing all that would be tedious. Also, coders typically would start such a thing from scratch
I bet the CD project is dead and burried then. It doesn't mean no-one else should/can make a game like CD, but it would prolly start from scratch.
The major problem in the current scene is the lack of gfx-artists and iirc CD was quite advanced in that department. I could imagine some coders here being able to code CD, but without gfx it would not really 'be' CD. |
