And on the 'MSX next generation' so to speak which will not have a cartridge slot (too bulky and old etc.) you can use it to connect your old hardware to it.

Yup, and that is the most important and interesting feature for us!

Hmm, don't know that. I mean, if this new device can emulate all the old hardware, why should you need a cartridge slot? Only for the cartridge games?

That and devices like SCSI/IDE interfaces, floppy disk interface, centronics printer interface, etc etc etc... Basically all legacy stuff
Ofcourse a prerequisite for the devices I named is that I/O works.

We must not confuse two things

1. The USB-rom cartridge-reader. I see that as an indepent device for someone who has original cartridges (games). If the cartridge is suitable for use with I/O we should ask someone in Japan cause we donot know that.

2. The device Sander meant is the all-in one chip and that is meant to replace all old devices you cannot get anymore or are nearly disappeared from market.
Such as the VDP FROM 9918 to v9990 hopefully , sound from psg till opl4 .
Also the z80 will be into that device etc.

I do not see any confusement here? It was quite clear what Sander meant.

It is currently not suitable for I/O, and plans for supporting it are unknown.

However, most I/O based devices you could connect to the USB cartridge reader are probably easier and cheaper to be emulated. But if Grauw is right, it's easy to implement I/O functionality as well.

Basically any I/O cartridge with an external connector of some kind cannot just be emulated. Keep in mind that for a new MSX, the current SCSI and IDE interfaces are legacy hardware. Also RS232 and printer port... And ofcourse there is a big amount of useless devices from the MSX1 era (e.g. Quickdisk drives)

Personally I'd think it would be really cool to have some sort of 'flash-rom' that would let you burn old konami roms from your pc so you can play em on the msx hardware...I think this would not be entirely legal to do...but still...it would be nice.

It already exists. And as long as you have the original roms, it's legal as well.
