yes, disk access is the more logical, about VDP the method is a bottleneck

prodatron> It will work indeed. I just wondered whether the performance would be better than CPC on a real MSX2 as well.

So the question is, if blueMSX executes some VDP commands faster than the real MSX2. In SymbOS it would affect text output, line/box drawing and scrolling.
@DVik: Any idea regarding this?
Currently I am fighting with (hopefully) one remaining bug, and then all important application should work with the exception of SymAmp and SymShell.
Btw, I am looking forward to adapt SymAmp for the MSXs' PSG I am wondering, what music files/formats exist on the MSX. On the CPC we had two important sound programs, for which some hunderts modules are available. SymAmp plays the compiled versions of these modules, and I am sure, that it will be able to play them on the MSX2, too. So what's about MSX music? Do you have some standard formats and module collections? |

Does SymPlay work then? Surely the .vid files have to have changed format for it to work at a good speed? If not that is doubly impressive |

Prodatron: you can (or must ) adapt SymAMP for PT3 psg format, for songs made with Flying Bytes tracker for PSG (I don't remember the extension), for songs made by Moonblaster (FM PAC-MSX MUSIC and MUSIC MODULE-MSX AUDIO) mainly (MBM extension). Also, you can adapt PRO TRACKER modules (PRO extension) also for Music Module or FM PAC or music formats for Moonsound like MBW song (MOONBLASTER WAVE). All replayers and docs are available for this formats. And bluemsx emulates all this four main chips: PSG, MSX MUSIC, MSX AUDIO and MOONSOUND. You know PSG, MSX AUDIO has a OPL 1 chip (9 FM channels + 1 8 bit ADPCM), MSX MUSIC has a OPLL (9 FM channels or 6 FM + 3 for FM drums) and MOONSOUND has a OPL4 (24 channels PCM or FM). With the exception of Moonsound, the other 3 sound systems where available when MSX was "comercially alive".
Hope this info helps you. Also, I compose and make music mainly with my MSX, mainly for FM PAC and now for Music Module (MSX AUDIO)
Yours,

SymPlay works, but of course horrible slow, as every frame has to be converted first. So we need a new option in SymStudio
I will also implement a converter function in SymPlay. |

So, you must adapt SymPlay or we must adapt the videos?

Btw, sorry for the confusion,
SymAmp = music player
SymPlay = video player
@SPL: Cool, I will first look at the PSG formats, as it would be cool to able to play them all on the CPC, too. So as I see, there are two formats (PT3 and Flying Bytes)? Any idea about a good website? I couldn't find it yet via Google.
Ok, the other formats and soundcards will come later, too |

SymPlay just needs to be modified a little, but TrebMint has to implement a new option
[ ] generate CPC encoded video file
[ ] generate MSX encoded video file
SymPlay will be able to load both versions, but on the MSX CPC ones need to be converted first and vice versa.

PT3 are made with Vortex Tracker (this is for M$ Windows) and some msx users made a replayer. Unfortunately, I don't have much idea of PSG tracker as I don't work with it and I think there are a lot of "non standard o not much used" formats. Well, also there is a very good format which is the format MICROCABIN used for their games, and also there is a replayer.
Also, feel free to ask here: http://forum.karoshicorp.com about PSG |

I guessed that conversion would be slow for video files. Personally I think having a video format for each machine is a bad move as it's meant to be cross platform. Perhaps we can combine the two formats into 1 file : cpc frame 1, msx frame 1, cpc frame 2, msx frame 2 etc
However I'd like to see what conclusions you come to for support of the 16,256 + colour modes before I recode all the video and graphics side of symstudio - sorry (You've been on at me about the video for ages) but currently I'm busy with symbasic. Oh and spl the videos don't have sound, though i may look into this.
