Hello,
I want to install an MSX emulator on my laptop which runs DOS.
I got pretty far with fmsx v1.6 (the last free one), but I ran into a very annoying problem:
To change disks in fmsx you have to make one big .dsk file and then use <right control>+0-9 to switch, but my dear laptop does not have a right control key! Only a left one!
Even the front-end YAYA 1.2c doesn't seem to have easy disk switching capabilities.
Can anyone help me out?

Nevermind, I solved my own problem
Thanks to NO$MSX
It's not doing it too accurately (I can't see my statistics in Aleste 2) but it's really fast.
Also, hooray for my 100th post |

So, what are the specs of that laptop?
(And why are you running DOS on it, for goodness sake?)

Why do you use MSX, manuel ^_^

Yep, if you install a small Linux distro you can run openMSX . |

It's a Pentium 1 with MMX at 300 Mhz and 32 MB RAM.
I like Dos games, I don't want to carry a mouse around all the time, and the touch-pad sucks, that's why I don't put Windows on it.
I have ROOT Linux on it too, but openMSX would make it too slow.
(It could be possible though, I somehow managed to run an svga program without the x windows system.) |

IIRC Pentium (I) MMX never run faster than 233 MHz. It is most likely a Pentium II if it runs at 300 MHz.
About emulators, I'd suggest to use BrMSX that is more accurate and faster than fMSX 1.6. You can also try NO$MSX (there's a DOS version), but it isn't half as accurate. On the other hand, it has a very nice GUI.

openMSX wouldn't be too slow if you use conservative settings. Most importantly: try a scale_factor of 1, and it probably runs just fine. Remember that HP Jornada: it ran openMSX fine, while it has a 200MHz ARM processor, without MMX even!

@webmouse, thanks for the tip. It's certainly a lot more recent than Root Linux (on which development stopped in 2004 (the developer is now doing CRUX))
@pitpan, it's an expensive 8 year old laptop (3000 guilders). Everytime it boots it says Pentium, MMX, and 300MHz. Root Linux says it's i586 architecture everytime it boots (Pentium 2 is i686) and that there're 300 MHz available. And trying to install Arch Linux on it which is i686-only causes a crash.
I might try out brMSX, because I'm afraid nocash's accuracy might cause a game freeze.
Can you tell me how disk switching goes in the dos version of brmsx?

@manuel How can I switch to a scale factor of 1 from full screen in dos? |
