I need some help. I've made it to the last stage and I'm trying to beat the last boss. The boss shoots lighting at you, and everytime it kills me in a few seconds. How the hell do I beat this thing?

Yes, it is insanely tough! Save state can come in handy. I used BrMsx and saved state after each lightning bolt I escaped. I have no idea if there is an easy way.

There was a similar boss in Vulcan Venture last stage, except it was 10000 times harder!

I'm running Nemesis 2 off a real MSX, so I can't use savestates.

Yes, this last boss is major pain. It takes me hours to get there, and I always die.

Everytime I shoot at it, it doesn't seem to hurt it. What am I suppose to do?

well, if you have a qbert cartridge you could cheat a little with passwords =P
and with a gamemaster I think you can make savestates (and skip levels).

No, I don't got Qbert or Gamemaster but I don't want to resort to cheating. Where would be the fun in that?

Good point.
However, wasting hours and hours just to reach the same boss and then getting destroyed isn't a lot of fun either

IMHO the difficulty of Nemesis 2 is just non-human. I have no idea what Konami was smoking when they did this game.

Hehe. I remember that hard final boss. Nemesis 2 was a birthday present for me in 1987 I believe.
I also remember that I use Gamemaster and the slow motion function, so the lightning bolts were
harmless like a non working flamethrower :-)

Salamander is worse. Konami games tend to be harder on MSX than on other systems. I wonder why; most MSX users at that time were very young.

The metal gear 1 & 2 that come with Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence also have 'Normal' mode and 'Original (Hard)' mode
so games WERE tougher back then.

But as for nemesis 2 and salamander... all i can say is practice practice practice... i finished both games numerous times without cheating, so it IS possible... just try to figure out the attack path of the bosses... there IS a bit of logic in there you know

MG1 and MG2 I could beat, even back then. Aside from Nemesis 1, I never beat the other Nemesis games without cheating, allthough I came really far in some.

IIRC, when the ship starts powering up for the lightning bolts you'd hover your ship vertically. e.g. start at the top of the screen and move straight down so the bolts are missled. Options are your friend here (as always prolly)
The first shots are where you can do a lotta damage, just settle your ship (or better your options) in front of the weakspot of the ship when it appears (you gotta know by heart, right now, where that spot is ) and pump some lead into the mother.... then hover around whilst shouting "KABOOOOM this! you light spitting deamon!"

good luck on that one

in my opinion nem2 IS indeed one of the hardest one's to crack, salamander ain't THAT hard after years of practice, harf harf. I dunnit, now you do it!

Using the Game Master could be considered cheating... Using Q*Bert surely isn't, as it's a combination/feature Konami has built in. The METALION password which is enabled with Q*Bert in the second slot is very useful in beating the final boss.

Think about Salamander, it actually requires the combination with Nemesis 2 to enable the correct ending. Of course you still gotta find something to enable it...

I remember a lot of years ago a (non-human) friend of mine playing Nemesis II on his Sony F9S and finishing it using the cursor keys and with only one ship. We were amazed (he invited all of their MSX friends) with him playing the first half of the game and then, we were shocked when he says that he must return again to the beggining, I still remember some enemies (bells maybe) that reflects the lasers when hit, not a piece of cake!

Nemesis 2 and Salamander are easy-peasy compared to Parodius. Hell of a game, but I don't know how many weeks I spent to get in lv. 5, in order to abandon the game later on

¿Savestates? ¿Game Master? Heck, BE A MAN, finish the game with the sole help of your joystick and your nerves, as I did. It is difficult but not so "insanely". Besides if you cheat, where is the fun?

And really, if you find Nemesis 2 difficult, don't try Salamander!
