I bought the game when it was released, but after finishing it I lost the disks... I would like to play again, shouldn't it be public domain after ten years?

There are differences. Nestor, you could ask for backup disks, for a smaller amount.
If people wants a different version , PAIII was developed before any decent emulator came along.
Ro, I lowered the prices throughout the years and the copyprotection has been removed for years now
The price of those four disks is even lower than the royalties received by the developers.
People can also get a large diskimage file that works fine under Blue and Open MSX , after Nyrikki's Dragon's lair

IIRC the copy protection will do a infinite loop when it detects a crummy copy. I've removed the crack years ago, can't remember exactly what it did but it sure did not pop-up the demand for disk 5. But hell, it might be the alcohol setting in right now

A friend of mine bought PA3 back then through the games abo. After a while he got the disk 5 problem. It seemed he got a disk that didn't have the copy protection. When he got a disk with the copy protection, the disk 5 problem was gone.
In 2000 or something Rob asked me to look into removing the copy protections... one of them being the PA3 one. I noticed how the game got that disk 5 thing when I found the copy protection check. There's a table with the correct disk numbers which are overwritten with 5's when the copy protection failed to detect. In both cases the game will continue to load (and play).
Currently there are copy protection free versions of several Sunrise games done with Rob's permission. |
