O_o That might be one of those v9990 evaluation boards, how cool is that?
(Also pointless if you have a GFX9000, but I think collectors will go into drool-mode over this one ) |

Woah, is that the famous PCB of the MSX3 prototype? According to seller description, there is not R800 on the board, just V9990, Z80 CPU and I/O.

Rumours said that Panasonic never achieved that, it was not economically viable. With that failed attempt, Panasonic left the standard and officially MSX became comercially dead. |

No!, this PCB hasn't a spare socket for z80!...note that the socket is 14x2DIL so, it is for ROM.
surely it must be controlled by mean of that bus. OR
what chip is that other surface chip near of the brown connector? a msx engine maybe????

the other surface chips hasn't enought pins as for be a msx engine, maybe it is a logical jungle.

I needs pictures with more resolution!!!!
but with that i can see, the bus connector, has the pin 10 grounded, and it is BUSDIR!!!! .... shit seems that it is not a MSX bus connector.
but anyway i needs picture with more resolution to do a correct analisys

I think it is the evaluation board that Yamaha built. The 50-pin connector is not suitable (directly) for MSX. Instead of this, included in the pack there was an adaptor to connect to MSX and another one for IBM-PC. All this is explained in the manual. The empty socket it is for some kind of BIOS you could develop. If you look at the board, you could hardly read "27C256", that means 32KB.
Maybe Panasonic did not build any prototype anyway... |

I forgot to mention that there were adaptors for IBM PC, MSX and PC 88
