Hi!
The dream machine of my school times has just arrived. I wonder how nowdays people load these devices with software? I have no floppy, nor tape. Shall I try to obtain sundisk cf id? If i get it where i can find MS-DOS for it and what is a general procedure to transfer games from PC?
I apprecite your help as cant sleep well before i be able to play Kings of valley, Payload, Bungle bay, Galaga and all those fantastic titles again.
Thank you!
Sergey

If you are not going to use floppy or tape drives, then you propably should think of getting sunrise CF-reader or ATA-IDE.
They can be purchased from sunrise for msx -webpages.
If Im correct, the msx-dos is included in those sunrise products.
Or you can just search ebay for game/software cartidges. There are usually available some.
You can transfer stuff from PC by using "disk manager", made my lex lechz (RuMSX developer). But then you'll need a diskdrive.
I have'nt used CF reader or ATA ide, so I'm not sure how to transfer stuff to them from PC.

If you have an LS-120 drive for MSX and one for PC then transferring files is very easy with sunrise IDE. I haven't even tried the FAT16 patch yet, I just formatted an LS-120 disk as 32MB and it works with no problem under win2k.

If you have a CF adapter for your PC, I'd strongly recommend the Sunrise CF interface for your MSX. It's quick and easy to use, doesn't need a bug external power supply (like you do with harddisks/LS120/CDRom drives) Also the interface is silent, no noisy spinning disks or other moving parts. MSX-DOS is supplied with this CF interface. You can find plenty of games on a certain (subtle hint) FTP. site, from the Finish University Network, in .finland (end of subtle hint). Some games there are in '.dsk' format and you need a tool to get the actual files out of the disk-image (see Xan0ri's post above). Transfer procedure is a simple copy/paste in Windows to the (on your MSX created) CF partition.

Sergey,
if your YIS503IIIR has network module (plugs into side slot, has two MIDI-type sockets), then check MSX-Link project:

On the page tnt23 mentioned you can also find link to another projects - WAVeR, MicroWAVeR and some others. You will be able to load from CD via cassette port.
If you have more questions - feel free to ask me on the russian part of this site - http://ru.msx.org
I know you will have questions, because network-enabled machines like yours require special treatment. |

Damage-x, you are waisting space I believe with the ls120. Format it as HD and you have 3 partitons at least.
CF is recommended ofcourse and we are already preparing a new serie.and there is still a limited stock of a few copies
But for that the cases must prepared ,so for please take that into account when ordering.!
