Ok, just a quicky, but does the productionline of NLMSX end with the current version from years ago? Or will there be a new version somewhere in the future? Anyone knows whether Frits has plans regarding all this?
On some points it's still my emu of choice! ^_^

Out of interest, why is it your emulator of choice?

very lightweight, usually does the job without requiring an arm&leg from Billly .. |

I'd like to see a new version of NLMSX as well. I like the lightweight, straight-to-the-point feel of it as well and - as I already concluded in the EmuComp - it gets the job done most of the time. I wonder what a little tweaks, optimizations and perhaps a new feature or two would do.

Indeed, NLMSX was definately one of my all-time faves. Heck, I still use it from time to time. It'll run on just about any old brick, it's fairly accurate and a breeze to use. Plus, it doesn't lock disk-images so you can update your disks while you're devving. Anyhoo, 'twas a great emu. It's a real shame it's been 3 years since the last version saw the light... |

It's strange as Frits had/has some serious improvements ready/planned for NLMSX's next release. I do hope he's still planning to release new versions.

I'm not much of an emulator user, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I do wonder if NLMSX can keep up with blueMSX and openMSX development and improvement. If the gap has become too large, I can imagine it kinda demotivates the NLSMX developer to release new versions.....

VDP emulation is simplified in NLMSX, so you can find many problems with some demos.
Sound emulation is better in openMSX and blueMSX.
There are no save states, no debugger, no trainer, no audio capture in NLMSX.
Only some examples of the real differences.

VDP emulation is sufficient to run the vast majority of MSX software though, sound emulation is decent enough to give a more than general impression, there are a limited amount of features (e.g. not 200 different types of MSX computers to emulate) that are usually more than enough to get the job done and CPU load is considerably lower than in blue/open. For instance, you don't have to wait for one or two seconds for every step you take in the menu, and switching to and from fullscreen mode works as you'd expect it to. Surely the emulator isn't perfect, but in some aspects it does have advantages over other emulators indeed. I'm curious what an update of NLMSX would further improve to that, as I am to see how the - when it comes to accuracy - better openMSX/blueMSX will progress to an even more userfriendly experience.
