Matej: no-one's up to modelling I think.., looks nice on specs alone, practically speaking no-one's gonna care about 3D I think
Henk: nothing wrong with a Moonsound, is it? You'd need quite some gates to make a sound'card' AND do the whole rest of the rest of the MSX.. |

Don't get me wrong but we are talking about a wishlist, not about the difficulty making one. If a MSX 3 would be made we should at least make it in a way people would notice it (others then the MSX users today). We should not limit ourselfs to the posibilies of the new one-chip MSX.
For the current one-chip MSX we should try to create a Turbo-R with the upgrades that exist now (SCC, Moonsound, GFX9000, Etc) and make it a device that people want with games that people play. There is alot of 8-bit stuff thats being sold right now. Old games packed inside a Joystick and people buy them alot. I really think the MSX can be sold in the one-chip package but it needs good games. I am sure games like Pokemon could be made on a Turbo-R and people would buy it! |

Oh, then I want an MSX3 that writes its own cool games, with all kinds of neat graphical and sound effects.

Thats software making software... not hardware making software |

Hmm why do you think each time you get a new pc game you need to get a better gfx card

| they have from the beginning implemented a sc5 pattern mode...

regarding speed or regarding ease of use ?
Speed isn't going to cut it on an MSX2, compared to sc2/sc4. Easy of use .. mhoa, dunno, is it so difficult to copy (x,y)-(x+7,y+7) to (dx,dy) ?
|
Speed of course... [... only 768 bytes or so to move ... instead of 26.5KB] |

wishlist:
dual psg in stereo setup. Old skool tunes rock.
horizontal smooth scrolling in screen 2 that also works with old konami's. (smooth scrolling nemesis 2, yummie).
more bits per pixel in screen 2, with loadable pallet option for old games.
remove some sprite limitations, or those annoying flickers when more than 8 sprites hit the same line.
some phase accumulated oscillators and analogue multimode NMOS filter for the psg. Grab some MOS shit. Like wolf said, some realtime enveloppes here and there. A usb to midi plug and some software so we can use the OCM as a old skool midi controlable module, like the sidstation. http://www.sidstation.com/
Hmm. There are two audio outputs. Maybe, its possible to cram another 3 psg units in the altera so we have can two seperate stereo feeds. This way we can simulate some PSG dolby sound! Would be cool.

More sprites on a line would be nice, but I don't think old games are suddenly flicker-free then.
If sprites flicker, then the coder did a good job. Otherwise the 5th or 9th sprite (and on) would just not appear at all. So because of these sprite rotation systems, the sprite amount of 4 and 8 is more or less hardcoded in the game, not the MSX .. |

Games with sprite rotation systems will be flicker free automagically, because they still put all sprites on screen. There will be different sprites visible each frame because of the priority that is rotated.

Currently the OCM is MSX2 with a few added goodies right? The next things I would like to see in an enhanced core are a turbo mode with xxMHz Z80 (and perhaps faster VDP also), PCM channel like the Turbo R (maybe with additional capability for higher sampling rates or 16-bit), and built-in GFX9000.
I imagine that turbo mode and PCM could be added without taking a lot of FPGA resources. With PCM+PSG+SCC+OPLL and some kind of stereo arrangement for the output then the sound capabilities are pretty complete. The combination of PCM and fast Z80 would allow playing recorded music from the flash card. Not MP3 but ADPCM or similar could be decompressed in realtime.
GFX9000 would be great if it is possible to fit it in. Probably it wouldn't have to be 100% compatible and cycle accurate, just good enough so that software can be developed simultaneously for OCM and TurboR+GFX9000. I think that 512x424x15bitRGB would satisfy the requirements for displaying pics of naked Japanese women as mentioned previously |

Aloha friends!
Check this out YM2149 in VHDL (VHDL model of the classic sound chip - Now includes 3d volume table. Tested with many of the Atari ST trackers.)
http://home.freeuk.net/fpgaarcade/library.htm
So what about 2xYM2149 as StereoPSG chip??? |

How 'bout making the OCMmkII a networked computer. a la XBox Live.
There'd need to be applications developed to go through a portal where you can buy games (projectEGG, but hopefully also in english). and of course email, browsing, etc etc
Is this already the intention (portal connected to games vault)? I think keeping the OCMmkII as a stand-alone device would be wasting lot of potential. |

I meant "paid" a la projectEGG (say 5 euro/game, whatever, or a subscription service) |
