Hello all!

I'm just looking for the rom of SCC soundchip (maybe SCC.rom) but it seems hard to find.
Anyone have it??

My e-mail is: ivanjpm@hotmail.com

thank you very much!

You can find a fake SCC or SCC+ rom if you use paraMSX or RuMSX ; other emulators support SCC or SCC+ without using a fake rom.

The SCC as such doesn't need/have a ROM, it's just a sound chip that needs programming and does not come with predefined data in ROM.

and the 128 bytes wavetable?

  1. it's 32 bytes per channel
  2. there is no such thing as an SCC ROM. All wave data for a tune is stored in either the musicfile itself or some wavekit that can be loaded
  3. the so-called fake-SCC or SCC-I ROM is merely a hack since those emulators apparently have no proper support of detecting it. Of course programs can still use this method of detection to detect the emulator and decide wether or not it should run
that's probably the reason why it's so hard to find... it simply doesn't exist at all...

and since the roms don't contain anything at all:

SCC.ROM (paraMSX)
SCCPLUS.ROM (SCC-I, RuMSX)

(both are zipped)

Mmmm... thank you very much for the clear information.
Now the (my) problem is: how openMSX in MAC can detect the SCC in the MPX program??
Because it is not detected.
thank you.

I guess the MPX program has a poor detection routine... Maybe it detects the RC-code of the game to determine whether or not there is an SCC and without the ROM that might be the problem.

The latest version(s) of openMSX enable to plug in cartridges at runtime (this is not projected in Catapult) to more or less emulate a slotexpander switch. When you insert a ROM image for SCC before you boot up the MPX program, maybe it'll detect SCC again.

MPX detects the MegaFlashROM SCC just fine, but that could be because it's made from an old Konami SCC

I've taken a peek in the MPX.COM file... What type of file are you trying to play? It uses other drivers (such as MPK.BIN, MPK103.BIN, MGSDRV.COM, OPX.BIN and KINROU5.DRV) to play the file, so I'd imagine it uses that driver to do sound chip detection as well.

I play .msg and .bgm files. As you all know they can play SCC. Those files are the "drivers" to play .mpk, .opx, .bgm and .msg files. All this files are in the disk image I use to play it with OpenMSX, but the SCC is not "recognized" in the program. That's why I suppoused that a "SCC.ROM" was needed to plugin in the OpenMSX emulator to be propertly recognized by the MPX program.

It doesn't work... thank you.

What exactly did you try?

MGS is correct... it has no SCC detection at all although it can play to SCC. You need to tell MGSDRV the SCC slot when you install it. I haven't thoroughly checked the other drivers, but it might be the case for those as well.

In a normal MSX with a SCC in a slot, everything works out OK, but in OpenMSX I think that telling in what slot is the SCC is quite difficult...
