well, my feelings are already hurt by sunrise and snout I've kindly been waiting a year for the interface and now and my mail box is still empty... Thats why I wanted to bring up the topic. Besides, I don't see the difference in supporting the gr and anything else an emulator supports. |

I have the GameReader and its working great I've probably seen some of the issues you and BiFi has discovered but overall its working very well and I can definitely recommend it to anyone.
The missing part was the interface so I could implement support for it in blueMSX I'm quite sure you didn't send that, right? |

Suggestion for next MRC poll :
What would you do if Game Reader support should be added to your favorite emulator ?
1 - I would buy the Game Reader and new games on cartridge
2 - I would buy the Game Reader to play only old games on cartridge
3 - I still would not be interested by the Game Reader

| Why should the European/American/Brazilian MSX fan be forced to use an emulator only conceived in a Japanese approach ? Support of the Game Reader in other emulators, especially blueMSX, openMSX and NLMSX, should enhance the sales of the Game Reader and be a good promotion for sales of new cartridges.
And to be more clear : the Game Reader should be available without the MSX-PLAYer.
|
I thought it was nice it was included....
Surely it'd be great if there was support for this device in other emulators. One thing though... It's the MSX Association who made the device possible in the first place, and as much as I'd want it widely supported, it IS their decision.
Of course though, originally support for the device in bluemsx, openmsx and nlmsx WAS announced, but accidents happen.
I highly doubt the idea of a cartridge reader is patented or copyrighted, so , to make a different one from scratch, I seriously doubt anyone could really have a problem with it, aside from not liking the competitors product.

I'm sure its doable to support the Game Reader without MSX-A's approval and without a public API.
The problem is only what the consequences would be. If there won't be any consequences I'll start reverse engineering tonight |

The reason they don't want to give away the specs is (AFAIK!) the fact that you could use it to dump ROMs and there are chances that MSX becomes less interesting from a commercial perspective again.
I hate secrecy, marketing and proprietary stuff |

But they can't avoid that an hobbyist develops his own game reader with his own specs, and with a little chance, it could be better, because it should be a multi-platform game reader ! So, MSX-A is only trying to win time (and eventually lose money, so it's harakiri approach ). |

so, what if you could? you'd need real carts in the first place, and almost everything is dumped already anyways. I doubt that's the reason.

there're no poll options for people who already have one now

well, that's just too bad then.... the question is, can it be helped?
In the current state, I already like the gamereader a lot; I'm sure it'd only get better if emulators like bluemsx supported it. I know you can't have 'em all, but one can hope

The reason is more simple : sell all the different versions of the MSX-PLAYer ! But again, if I'm not satisfied with this emulator, why should I buy any product linked or embedded to/in this emulator ? Total nonsense from my point of view !!! |

I made my own cartridge reader/writer. It works using the parallel port, not the USB, but it is fast enough (about 2-3s reading a 128K ROM, and about 7s flashing it)
Anyway, it is a quite simple device. It doesn't work as a real MSX slot since it doesn't implement all the signals. ^^!

Erm, Mars you make a mistake the Sunrise reader is quite different from the Japanese one since it is prepared for using e.g. our hardware ,but if you donot even have read the log Samor wrote about it yeh. MSX players are indeed different. A cartridge you would never buy than? Since it can used also in anormal msx but is also a linked product to the reader
