dvik, also the c64 had fixed palette.

Yeah I vaguely remember that. I haven't done any c64 coding in over 20 years. But as wolf_ said, the palette isn't as clear as the MSX palette which makes it better at least for some type of games.

Talking about C64:
I was just having a glance at some pictures on the net and I found something I don't like to see...

http://www.msxposse.com/site/gallery/displayimage.php?album=2&pos=40

I don't know how to understand this picture, still it looks like someone hammering a C64 at an MSX fair!!
I just hope that I am misunderstanding and that there is a good explanation for this. C64 is nothing special to me but it certainly is for some other people that should be respected.
I don't want to be polemic but I hope this machine has not been voluntarily destroyed in some kind of 'anti-C64 ritual'... Ok, this is just a machine, just like a hammered MSX would be, still it would simply be a real shame! I am sure a majority of people in this community would disapprove such an act.
Still, this picture is on a public site, there should be at least an explanation that goes along with it... or some appology to the C64 community.

I have to agree with sinus. That dude on the picture is a big fat asshole. I guess the poor c64 was not working to start with but still...

EDIT: I don't know who that guy on the picture is so I can't really say that it is an a-hole, but at least the action is one that big fat a-holes would do.

The C=64 was (afaik) not working indeed.

This is a physical re-enactment of the 'traditional' C=64 bashing as seen in several MSX demos in the 1990's.

I think the pictures should be removed and post an apology somewhere. This is shameful for the MSX community and something I definitely don't want to be part of.

It was discussed on MRC shortly after the Oss fair, also with mixed reactions. Some ppl thought it was bad, others compared it to crashing an old printer orso, or an old unused MSX1, and didn't make such an issue about it.

Hammering old computers is just stupid.
It's okay for me to joke about C64 users (+ others scenes), and for C64 users (& others) to make fun about us MSX users.
..But it when it comes to this, we need to apologize about the "incident". It's just wrong.

Sorry, C64' ers.

Don't be a tightass. it's just damn funny smashing them C64 or anything else (even MSX stuff). Every-one thinks it's funny at the moment it happens, but afterwards it's always blablabla.
it's always funny untill some-one gets hurt, then it's just hilarious.

c' mon! Anybody got a problem with that philips MSX printer I threw in the garbage last week? (now, THAT's horror!)
(oh, I've got this monochrome monitor, still working, which is of no use to me... any one?)

--------
So uh, bot?
I just love ANY homecomputer, even commodore. Hell, I got a c64 and amiga stacked in the attic which I loved. Also an atari 520 a speccy (zx81) and a BBC computer. I used to have a texas instrument, but sold it waaaaay back. (damn, that's bad.)
MSX still is my favorite tho.

True, but making such a big fuzz about it is imho even worse... Come on, we're talking about a piece of non-functioning (*) electronic equipment, which would have gone to the garbage anyway.

(*)Yes, I was there; no, I didn't bash the C64; yes, I do think it was funny.

a speccy (zx81)

/me slaps ro about a bit with a C64... (Ow, wait, no, that's wrong. Can't hurt them C64. Sorry.)
A speccy is not a zx81!

It would be a great compliment if C64 users start bashing MSX systems at their fairs!!!! I would jump with joy
