Say Wolf, do you happen to know details about getting MSX-MIDI on a PC?

I've got a Roland XP-30.

Oh yeah, and a Yamaha MIDI interface.

If it's possible like that, I would be ofcourse very thrilled...

And what's 'MSX-MIDI' supposed to be? A midifile?

MSX-MIDI is supported on Turbo-R machines in blueMSX and openMSX.

What concerns the Yamaha CX5M, CX5M-128 and CX7M-128 computers, they are supported by blueMSX :
http://www.msxblue.com/manual/cx5m.htm

Note that the MIDI part of these computers is not yet supported.

No Wolf, don't see it that complicated...

I just want to hear Famicle Parodic, Illusion City and the intro of Tower of Gazzel on my fancy keyboard.

Because I suppose it will rock the roof from my house.

Do those programs make use of General MIDI? Is it, in any way, connectable through an emulator? Or does one really need a real MSX?

Heheheh, I especially like the Road Fighter part. Hiiiing, hiiiiiiiiiing... Imagine! We could have a good laugh out of that!

allthough in that particular case I focused more on the crash sample, it's a good idea

Aurora: mechanical noise and other buzzes are irritating. But the scanline/blur thing is almost required! Since gfx were made on those old monitors, ppl anticipated on the blur (rasters etc.) so the gfx we've made in the past are made for scanlines and blur! A single pixel will look round, rather than a perfect square, and round is what ppl wanted.. I think. At least it makes sense for stars 'n stuff.

and here I am, using bluemsx with no monitor emulation at all.
SCART was already sharp, and allthough you're right about the round stars, with monitor emulation BlueMSX does look blurry, and my real MSX never appears blurry.

Then, with the screen stretching, bluemsx already automatically blurs just a little... seems enough anyway.

Also, I'm still using a CRT here... on 640x480, there will be tiny scanlines.. sure, not exactly the same as on a real MSX (since the resolution is twice as high and a monitor is not a tv), but they look better than emulated scanlines.

It's all a matter of preference, I guess... and with a TFT I'd probably have different settings already.

Ah.. well, then don't.. as far as I know, FM-Pac music played back on some midi device has always sucked sofar.. and prolly will suck forever. You simply can't beat the tightness and FM'ness from the FM-Pac!

didn't fmsx-dos have that feature? It sounded funky in some cases, but very wrong in others

I also once heard fmsx-dos doing SCC though an SBAWE32. Allthough it wasn't quite correct at times, it did make Kings Valley 2 sound quite funky

So it's possible with Blue MSX!

I will try instantly when I get home!

*dances around the room*

Thanks, Mars2000you!

That's all I meant to ask, Wolfie!
Still making nice music?

The problem is that all this music is really tailormade for FM, and around the time GM popped up (and MIDIfiles, or the ability to play over MIDI, became more popular) FM was somewhat ancient already. It's very hard to copy FM music 1:1 to some sample-player and expect at least the same quality.

Hahaha, no seriously, Wolf dude, are you still making some film or game scores?

Maybe we should meet up sometime again (if you remember me) and compare our stuff, huh? Why not, anyway...

yea I know who you are ..

atm working on ShoufShouf again.. (2nd series coming up!)

Perhaps you could visit one of these meetings? Or perhaps some Devcon I might (co-)organise again (With msxcg being around the urge for it is perhaps less than in previous years).
