Here goes, by popular demand... I did a little mapping of Xak at some point, and since some people might be interested I thought I'd post them here. I didn't get very far, because Xak is frigging huge and I actually made these maps by playing the game and taking captures. Not exactly the best way, but the map format seemed a little complex so I never got to ripping it. The first map shows how these maps connect. The 'funny' (logical) thing about Xak is that all maps actually do connect, and are drawn with a logical scale in mind. Notice the little detail on map 12 btw, tho you can't normally see that in the game. The map numbers are the numbers used by the game itself.

On a side-note: Permission is hereby granted to MSX-Solutions/only_69 to recycle/use any of these maps should they feel they're useful.

Hehe, probably never... Xak is rather big and all... I might do a few maps some day, but that game is seriously big... It even has like a 'shooter mini game' and whatnot... I'm still looking for two or three maps I'm still missing from disk 2 (I skipped a few maps on disk 1). If I find those I'll be sure to add them.

Great work, Sonic !

I'm pretty sure that Fabio will finish this map someday, it's just a question of time ... and patience !

Very nice work! I actually just got a link to this thread via email. Is there any chance these and any future Xak series maps could be presented somehow at XyZ under the Xak section/Xak Atlas page? Originally I was planning on making that section a Xak World Map only page, but turning it into a broader map display section would really expand that section! Of course you would get credit for making those maps on the special thanks/credits section of the site. Please let me know sometime. I would be very interested in adding content like this. ^_^

Xyz is a great work in progress page, I hope you get the permission to host the maps.
I do think you should concentrate on Xak and Ys though, Zelda already has too many sites.

Nice site! I'm amazed I never came across it before. Anyhow, yes, you may use these maps for your site. Please use the original png's tho, I hate it when people use jpg's for maps. If you wish to use thumbnails as well, please 'resample' them instead of a 'pixel resize'. Thumbs can be jpg's ofcourse. If in the future you'd feel like adding some MSX-specific info to your site to promote our platform that'd be much appreciated of course!

Thanks. The order of development will go in the order of Xak, Ys and lastly Zelda. Zelda isn't going to be quite as indepth as the first two since as you have said there ARE too many Zelda sites out there. lol Besides I couldn't hope to keep up with the content level of other powerhouse Zelda sites. That'd be impossible. Mainly the idea is to sell (figuratively) a product to gamers that enjoy this style of game by comparing Ys to Zelda and Xak to Ys. It was my fandom of Zelda that first led me to Ys and through Ys I eventually found Xak, so I'm sure connecting all three would lead to a higher interest in trying out Ys and Xak which is the main focus.

Thanks. It is kind of new and something that I've been working on for a few months now. More and more content is scheduled to be added to the site, but time is usually very limited so it will get done as it gets done. I really appreciate your offer of letting XyZ host these map images. I'll come up with a display page for it on the next update and post a link here. As your request I'll keep the original images in Png format and develop new thumbnails for them. I'll probabaly keep the original files at ImageShack anyhow since I'm using imageshack to host many of the other larger image files, so if you would just like to keep them there I'll simply set up links to their already existing imageshack locations if that is alright with you. And I'll be sure to drop a link to MSX.org from the links page and credit you for all of your work on these maps at the site. Thanks for the all the effort you've done on these maps! ^_^

Sure, you can keep the imgshack files if you want. Since I don't resample the original files though, they tend to be very small. I think the largest one is like 300kB. If you want me to make some thumbs for you that's no problem, they're on my drive anyhow. Just let me know if you want them in scale or not and what the maximum size should be. I made a few more maps yesterday, which I'll try and upload today as well. If you could do me one small favor tho: please replace 'MSX console' with 'MSX computer/system/platform'. It hurts so much to see our beloved system reduced to a mere console...

Cool fan site!
Did ya know MSX had some more RPG gems? (I missed them on your links/rpg page). Castelvania was mentioned, did you know Konami released the first episode on MSX2 as "vampire killer"?.
You might wanna check out "Sd Snatcher", "XZR" series, "Crimson" series, "metal gear" ofcourse. And there are more... much more brill games on MSX.

cheers!

Thanks. Actually that list isn't for all RPGs, but rather it is tailored toward Action-Rpgs or mainly Action-Adventure-RPGs. I had Castlevania listed on there, but just the titles that are more RPG meets MetroidVania instead of the original Castlevania/Vampire Killer formula. If you can think of any other unlisted RPGs that are more action-rpg based that are for MSX, feel free to let me know and I'll see about adding them on there. I'm very behind on the update to that page in particular though. It should look a whole lot cooler when I can spare the time to do it right. : )

Thanks. I've linked to them and resampled the thumbnails. You can see the results below:

http://www.gameflaws.com/xyz/xatlas.htm

Also I fixed all the instances I could find where I mentioned the MSX as a "console" and replaced them with the discription you provided. I can see that the MSX is very loved. lol
